There were no significant differences between Doom and Doom 2. There were a couple of new monsters, new type of linear gameplay, and a new weapon and a few new sprites.

There were also a couple of additions for sectors, but only a second set of faster lifts and doors. There may have been a few more sector additions or linedef additions but I forget them now.

The engine itself (the .EXE) contained only enough new information to handle the different gameplay, the new monsters, new weapon, and new sector types. Other than that, it was essentially the same.

I don't see any big deal about using something like ZDoom for this.
