I find that the socially uptight and distant societies tend to produce a lot of weird fetishes.

Japan, in particular, is experiencing a backlash towards the bolder, more assertive, "carnivore girl", who is nothing like the quiet, agreeable, traditional woman that many men were raised to expect to marry some day. The result is the supposed "herbivore boys", who are almost taking on that quiet, traditional female role instead. A lot of modern Japanese women do not want to get married at all, or at least they're in no hurry to, and that does seem to be screwing with the effective demographics. Probably one of the reasons for the currently very low fertility rate. And stuff like this.

How do you mean by "be western?" If you mean, don't keep getting abortions until you get a son, then I agree with you. China's population controls in the one child policy combined with the tradition that every family must have a son has really fucked them. In about 50 years, there will be a major population drop due to this, as the bachelor boom is already well into effect. It'll balance out, eventually, but China could easily drop it's population to below a billion in relatively short order.

The saddest part is I know folks in china that will never have free sex due to this. They have some minor flaw like being a little fat or having a bit of acne and that puts them completely out of the running for even the also flawed girls due to the ridiculous competition there is on finding a wife from the nearly 2/3rds ratio.

I guess I'm saying that problem is not gonna be solved anytime soon, cause it's already done. It's been like this for 30 years, the population hit is just plain coming.
