for "Skyoshock"

Also, what the hell? I guess they already gave wet sloppy ones to insufferable libertarians with the first two games, they're going for the ultranationalist traditionalist conservative market now.

GQ - 2010-08-12

Uh, did you play Bioshock? the main message was that Libertarianism is a system that would totally cave in on itself and result in a collapse of society. I imagine it'll take this same positon with ultranationalism in this game

Smellvin - 2010-08-12

Well, if socialism and libertarianism cause the collapse of societies and now we're seeing that mixed-market quasi-socialist/pseudo-capitalist countries like Europe and the US go belly up after a long enough period, what are we left with?

Barter economy! Hooray! I'll give you three beaver pelts and this bottle cap for your wife.

spikestoyiu - 2010-08-12

How nice was the beaver?

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2010-08-12

If it wasn't nice, I wouldn't have married her!

American Standard - 2010-08-13

Saying Bioshock champions and glorifies the philosophy of Randian libertarians is like saying District 9 was a love letter to apartheid.

Shanghai Tippytap - 2010-08-13

You guys have obviously not been confronted by the number of internet manbabies who cite Bioshock as their introduction into Randian hoardonomics. When a person's attempt at an intelligent political conversation turns to "Rapture would have worked if it weren't for the splicers", you know you're dealing with someone who can't be saved.

wtf japan - 2010-08-13

That's like saying Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket are responsible for glorifying war because a bunch of hyper-nationalist militarophiles list them as their favorite movies.

In any case, Bioshock Infinite is coming at the problem from a different direction. Since the Sky City is not, like Rapture, in a state of dilapidation or social decay, game designers will have the opportunity to explore the horrors that could be present in a libertarian utopia during the pinnacle of its realization. As a result, it'll be a lot harder for Randroids to say "it would have worked out if only it weren't for x." It IS working, and it's still terrifying.

RomancingTrain - 2010-08-13

Did the Randroids just not listen to the audiofiles from when Rapture was still functioning? There's one near the beginning that says (I'm paraphrasing here) "In a city of Gods who flips the burgers?" And there were plenty more about how sucky an Objectivist utopia would be.

Adramelech - 2010-08-12

I went from rolling my eyes to being pretty interested in two minutes. I still think Bioshock would've been better left as a single game, but at least this is the original team working on something new.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-08-12

Its a good trailer, but I wish they'd made this in its own series and not Bioshock. I fear it'll just clutter and confuse the story, while recycling combat mechanics.

Merzbau - 2010-08-12

I get the impression from reading/watching interviews with Levine that any connection to Bioshock- any confirmation at all that they share the same continuity, even- will be slight, and that the name is just a way to connect the basic premises (alternate past, failed [or in this case failing] utopian society, etc).

Even though I know this is the equivalent of that super-early Bioshock trailer where the player gets gruesomely impaled with a drill, and the real game won't be quite as pretty, I'm actually kind of excited for this! It's a neat time period, there's a lot of potential for fun art design, it doesn't seem to be doing much "steampunk" aside from the big cyborg guys, and I appreciate the saturated color scheme, daylight and weird feel to the whole thing.

spikestoyiu - 2010-08-12

Weird choice giving it the Bioshock name, but this looks and sounds awesome. But not as the awesome, buttery tears of the Internet over this.

memedumpster - 2010-08-12

I will be so mad if this game isn't based around the "sliding/ripping" game mechanic punctuated with using roses to create Wile E. Coyote gravity wells.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-08-12

It's not SystemShock 3.

longwinded - 2010-08-12

it's also not a blowjob

or money

or a pony

congratulations on the worst rating system ever

fedex - 2010-08-12

so free pony blowjobs would be an ideal barter system then?

longwinded - 2010-08-13

and how

EvilHomer - 2014-08-12

Depends which pony.

baleen - 2010-08-12

steam punk is pretty to look at.

cognitivedissonance - 2010-08-12

So, basically it's the Twilight Princess Sky Temple?

For, like, a whole game?

Boo.

Binro the Heretic - 2010-08-12

You'd think Baron Wulfenbach could have kept the Americans from taking over his fortress.

eatenmyeyes - 2010-08-18

He probably just leases out one of the older models.

chairsforcheap - 2010-08-12

that was beautiful.

you are a bunch of insufferable cunts, huh?

oddeye - 2010-08-12

Not really, as far as CGI trailers go this didn't look that great.

chairsforcheap - 2010-08-12

ohhh do i need to update my apps maybe? You're the exact retard i'm talking about. Eat my shit.

Spoonybard - 2010-08-13

CGI trailers are for showing off the game's art design, not its texture resolution or combat system. Because BS2's main criticism was that everything felt basically the same as its predecessor (which relied heavily on the player's desire to explore the environment and learn how it came to be), the main goal of this trailer is to demonstrate that this game won't have that problem, and will instead have something genuinely like the first game's considerable charm.

I never played Bioshock 2, for the simple reason that I couldn't get excited about discovering Rapture again. I'm excited about this, though.

CornOnTheCabre - 2010-08-12

let's hope Irrational Games spends more than 30 minutes on this one

theSnake - 2010-08-13

I can't wait to pirate this and then quit after the first "hacking puzzle" that is a game of Pipe Mania

theSnake - 2010-08-13

I remember you from the 90s dammit, you cant fucking trick me into playing Pipe Mania again you assholes!

Gardenback - 2010-08-13

These stars are ironic. I assumed this would be a video game about reading historical biographies filled with startling facts. Way to drop the ball, Irrational.

Potrod - 2010-08-13

As someone who's never played any "Shock" game, this looks cool. Flying cities and dirigibles and shit are cool.

Longshot- - 2010-08-13

and shit

freedoom - 2010-08-13

more like skyoshock, amirite?

freedoom - 2010-08-13

according to the tags i am!

Squeamish - 2010-08-18

Hrm. It looks good, and it has whetted my interest in the game.

I'd say this trailer has done its job.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-10-05

In ten years they will make a Bioshock based around the Teabaggers.

I predict!

Nominal - 2014-02-26

Boy did this turn out to suck!

- 2014

Spaceman Africa - 2014-08-12

It Stinks!
