I love that sweet spot that the game reaches after the first minute or two where on every turn, Russia advances another hundreds years or so with a new wonder.

Yes it was. If you lost the game manual with the answers in it you were screwed. This was back in 1991, so no internet cheating.

In 3400 BC Russia invented the United Nations. On the next move, the poor Aztecs discovered an alphabet. Within 40 years Russia found the cure for Cancer. Basically Russia is Lisa Simpson's tooth colony.
