And then they grow up to trace Disney cartoons for a bowl of rice a day.
... with the single-minded, pro-unification spirit of self-reliance!
No, there ARE animation studios in North Korea too, doing animation for studios in other countries. And food rations are used to pay employees.
There's a very nifty comic book done by a French animator that went to NK to direct animation for a French production. It gives details to his life actually living and working in NK. And as an artist, he notices some things that other visitors may have overlooked.
Like how the portraits of the dear leader and his father are all on tilted frames so they look down towards the watcher.

Learn math so that you can aim your artillery barrages, kids!

Just like the real North Korea, there is no internal reference to when this was made... could of been 1955... might have been yesterday... who can tell?
Looks like Canadian children's programming from the early 80s to me.

Wait, the North Korean Army uses the same thing for missiles that I used in 4th grade? Wild.

I'm not sure this animation is worth a full bowl of rice per day.

From the very first scene, in which a starving North Korean child struggles to kill a rabbit and thus have something to eat this week, this is a winner.

So this is basically the same as the propaganda cartoons Disney and Warner Brothers were making during the cold war, except the basic premise of American invaders is a lot more plausible.

North Korean childrens tv is basically 24/7 of airing their own versions of Red Dawn where South Korea and the USA invade them and force the people to think on their own and eat something else beyond bowls of dry rice.

I hope they don't uncover my pebble/trapper keeper catapult I developed in high school geology class. That shit can get dangerous.

The truly have nothing to envy.
Okay, so let me get this straight...
You made a reference to a famous (as the North Koreans reckon these things) North Korean poem in order to make a joke about this video.
THEN you replied to yourself, claiming that you do not get the somewhat intricate joke that you yourself just made.
I feel like someone forgot to log into their other sock-puppet and I just witnessed something extremely sad.

Oh man, the "failing to stop an invading army because I am bad at math" dream.. I get this one all the time.
It's right up there with the "all my teeth are falling out!" dream.

Still better than that damn "Gummi Bears" cartoon.
