I remember when film ratings was a very important subject to consider when discussing the merits of a film...before I turned 18 and was old enough to see whatever the hell I wanted.

Basically teenagers didn't go to the movies very often back in those days. Parents are more lazy now, and sending them to watch a couple of movies is several hours they don't have to talk with them.
