Iraq was historically the balance to Iranian power and now that we destroyed Iraq's military capability in our theatrical adventures, Iran is the dominant conventional power in the region. And they're getting increasingly assertive (just sent a warship through the Suez canal to tweak the nipple of the Arab world at a time of unprecedented instability).
