Jesus.

kingofthenothing - 2011-03-01

Fucking rat poison. Wow. Those will be some interesting comas.

charmlessman - 2011-03-01

Congratulations, humanity, you've sunken even lower.

jangbones - 2011-03-01

Is this story really all that outrageous?

I mean, AIDS drugs and rat poison are terrible things to put into your body but millions of people put all kinds of shit into their bodies on a daily basis, cocaine and heroin and oxy and THC and whatever the fuck they can get their hands on to get them high. And many, many of those substances, even legal ones, are fatal to rats or insects people in proper doses.

What's the outrage angle here? The fact that AIDS patients are getting robbed of their drugs? I'm sure medical care for poor AIDS patients was pretty shocking and horrible in Africa and everywhere else before addicts started stealing their drugs.

poorwill - 2011-03-01

um

grimcity - 2011-03-01

Cool story, fuckwit.

jangbones - 2011-03-01

THOUGHTFUL

James Woods - 2011-03-01

sweet opinion bro

Repomancer - 2011-03-01

Much of what you mention is safe when used safely. Oxycontin is a very safe drug - when used as prescribed for pain relief. Don't crush it up and snort it to get high.

You didn't say anything about ethyl alcohol, which gets you buzzed via a toxic effect and is far, far more dangerous than THC, which binds to receptor sites in the brain evolved for the purpose.

You didn't mention water either. Even the government admits the number of people who have died from smoking pot since they began keeping records is "zero," yet people occasionally die from drinking too much water. It's also deadly when inhaled.

Breathe pure oxygen for a day or two and tell me what happens.

Spike Jonez - 2011-03-01

Yo Repo, where can I get some weed?

jangbones - 2011-03-01

Hey, Repomancer tries an actual response with well-formed thoughts and sentences...what are you doing here?

I just can't understand all the moralizing on this clip. "Oh look at those savages! Smoking AIDS drugs and rat poison! Horrible animals!!" Yeah, because coke and heroin and 'tussin are so much better for you.

If dumbfucks want to shoot up and snort shit and smoke up and get blackout drunk, they can be my fucking guest, but they ain't nearly as superior to poor bastards that smoke crushed HIV drugs and rat poison as they like to think they are.

pastorofmuppets - 2011-03-01

Before, if someone said "I just found out I have AIDS" you couldn't reply with, "could be worse."

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2011-03-01

kill you are self

simon666 - 2011-03-01

Jangbones, you are trying to make some point by doing a funny math of 'outrages' whereby you say the value of outrages A negate the value of outrages B because we are somehow already acquainted with outrages A. Or something like this.

However, I think you miss the point. The outage from the scenes in this video are such because tragedy involved, which is to say, the outrage is a reaction to one's sense of morality and ethical judgments triggered by this video. This is also why people doing heroin and crack and whatever else is outrageous and morally troublesome.

BOTH the things you mention AND this video are outrageous, tragic and morally troublesome.

I get that one way to react to morally troublesome phenomena is to try and trivialize or negate them, as you have done. I just think that act in itself is also morally troublesome because it is inherently selfish, lacking the empathy tragedy deserves.

Or

jangbones - 2011-03-01

...OR WHAT????

No, I do not believe that if a clip showed people taking drugs that everyone is more familiar with, the reaction would be moral outrage. I think most here would shrug and think, "Yeah, so what? I've seen it before, this does not shock or interest me." No one will admit it now, and it may be a generalization, but I feel that most here are a lot more jaded and cynical than that.

Also I am not sure how you interpret my statements to mean that I lack empathy for drug addicts, but I ain't sweating it.

simon666 - 2011-03-01

Your statement lacks empathy, so insofar as it is representative of you at the point of its utterance, you lack empathy. But that's not to say you are 100% without empathy all the time.

simon666 - 2011-03-01

Or

Bootymarch - 2011-03-01

Wait, jangbones, the outrage here was, for me at least, the fact that they're stealing peoples' AIDS medication. That's some fucking cold blooded shit.

memedumpster - 2011-03-01

I just came from poe news, why the fuck aren't you over there instead?

jangbones - 2011-03-02

Poe news forums are infested with loud stupid trash. SA forum goons have more to offer.

charmlessman - 2011-03-02

Rewind 10 years.

jangbones
What's the big deal? Some people crashed planes into some buildings? It's not like a plane has never crashed before.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-03-01

Don't be such moralists. Just because a person chooses to smoke Charlie Sheen doesn't make him or her an evil person.

Ursa_minor - 2011-03-01

On at least one occasion, it's led to someone becoming Charlie Sheen - though those findings were only ultimately published after nearly 5 decades of research.

TeenerTot - 2011-03-02

But when you steal someone else's life-sustaining Sheen, you tip the scales to evil.

Xenocide - 2011-03-01

Africa just keeps coming up with new ways to be horrible.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-03-01

Well it's the cradle of this planet's civilization, so what did you expect?

NineEleven - 2011-03-01

You just can't help but laugh. Africans getting high off of anti-HIV meds (cut with rat poison, of course.) Who the fuck came up with that? "Hey, I think instead of taking my life-saving medication normally I'll just smoke it with rat poison 'cause I'm all outta Jenkem. Man this shit's good, let's call it Woonga." Good lord.

Shanghai Tippytap - 2011-03-01

i just want to point out that sky news is the fox news of the UK, and the whole point of this piece is to make south african blacks look even more like subhumans than typically regarded in Britain.

Ursa_minor - 2011-03-01

I wonder if the AIDS drug they mention could be something like oxycontin? His withdrawal symptoms sounded like it to me.

Toenails - 2011-03-01

When you have to resort to CRACK COCAINE because you can't score the drug you're addicted to, then you are in a world of shit.

voodoo_pork - 2011-03-03
