Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2011-05-28

Wow. The "Chocolate Rain" tag was actually justified.

On a more personal note, I did some growing up in Mexico and have family there. When all you hear on the news is violence, illegal immigration and drugs, it's hard not to get depressed about it. Then you see something like this and remember that there still are incredible people there.

While I'm halfway tempted to end on some note about alcohol or Tijuana, I won't. Five stars.

Anaxagoras - 2011-05-28

Mexico is chock full of incredible people. This video contains just a few of them.

phalsebob - 2011-05-28

Every Mexican I've known has been pretty cool.

Cena_mark - 2011-05-28

There may be some cool folks in Mexico, I've been to Chihuahua, myself. But there's a fucking gunfight happening right outside an elementary school. Their government is broken, cartels run most of the country, one teacher won't save them.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-28

There's no single solution (although I think reducing US demand for black market drugs through decriminalization and regulation would help), but it's hard to think of people more essential to a better future for Mexico than those protecting and educating children.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-05-28

Ha, these guys are amateurs. In America, the gunfights happen _in_ the schools. Plus, pipe bombs!

kingofthenothing - 2011-05-28

Holy shit.

Senator_Unger - 2011-05-28

We. have. to. save. them. WHY AREN'T WE SAVING THEM?!

Valkor - 2011-05-28

Because treating addiction isn't politically sustainable in many parts of the US. It's much more expensive to just lock them in prison for life and try to arrest/kill the dealers and a lot of individuals are making bank on this spending.

Senator_Unger - 2011-05-28

I was talking about saving the innocents caught in the crossfire but yeah, I suppose we should do something for the addicts, too.

takewithfood - 2011-05-28

There's a medal for this, right?

papercut_junky - 2011-05-28

This is both the most horrifying and inspiring thing I have seen in a long time.

As an aside, "Nothing is happening, just keep your head down" has, until recently, been the Mexican government's official response to the problem of drug violence.

Cena_mark - 2011-05-28

What government?

baleen - 2011-05-29

Right! Time to move to Mexico, mark.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-05-28

Life during wartime is a trying time for those not borne of violence.

jreid - 2011-05-29

Sweet and sad. Though I'm trying to understand why she recorded it.

junkshot - 2011-06-02

To show people who might not otherwise consider it that the violence in the streets effects the most innocent of the innocent?

chumbucket - 2011-06-02

does teaching have a Nobel Prize award?
