Lurchi Seals seem pretty intelligent. Where do they rank in the hierarchy of mammal intelligences?
jyrque Without any real knowledge on the field, I'd put seals on par with dogs.
They're just dogs in water.
chairsforcheap yeah no shit. Dogs are nothing like seals. Dog intelligence is completely dictated by the fact that they are in a state of perpetual arrested development. They never reach adolescence or maturity due to the way we've bred them. Seals may look like dogs and act inquisitive and have a gentle demeanor, but they are wild animals, and they rely completely on their instincts rather than human command.
chairsforcheap anyway mammal intelligence is relative, same as human intelligence. The only way us selfish humans can measure intelligence is by how human they act. It has nothing to do with cognitive skills or adaptive reflexes / knowledge of their unique ecosystem.

chairsforcheap bipolar?? How about nature, man.. What's more bipolar than nature? A wolf you raised from a cub on your ranch attacks you after 10 years of subservience just because he saw you wearing a cast for the first time? How about a chimpanzee in connecticut who decides one day your face looks like foie gras?
We are all animals man,
I just seem to need to take more special brain medication than most of them...
