And by my description, I meant I don't think the chicken feels that way. I think this woman is a saint.

Thanks for sharing that, my dad grew up as a dairy farmer and I heard about this but I've never seen an animal slaughter in person. I was really impressed that she treats it as a living thing and comprehends her actions and the situation rather than mosts peoples attitude of "fucking-delicious-thing-I-got-at-the-grocery-store."

I don't expect shrines to be built for every thing people consume but a lot of people have lost touch with what is actually involved with what they eat, whether it is the growing of a vegetable or the rearing of an animal.

I really like this lady. I want to try her old hen stew.

The French have a great dish designed just for old chickens, coq au vin. (Basically just chicken stew, but it's French, so it's made with a shitload of wine.) Amazing, if you do it right.

Don't wanna get too foodie on you guys, but way too many people have no idea what chicken even tastes like, anymore. Everyone eats the most tasteless, blandest part of the chicken, the breast, and off of intensively farmed chickens, so it's basically flavorless.

If you usually cook with chicken breasts, do yourself a favor and try the same recipe with thighs, some time. They actually taste like something.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try and order it when I'm in France later this year.

Not everyone takes this kind of time to do this. By not every one I mean she's the only one I've ever heard of.

I've often thought that I should learn how to prepare a chicken.
I'm not sure I could pull its head off.

Maybe I should start with catching and cleaning fish.

Burnov - 2011-06-30

An invaluable skill in cleaning fish is identifying both locations and presence of parasitic infestation.

Fish can be really terrible for parasites.

TeenerTot - 2011-07-01

Ew.

American Standard - 2011-07-01

Five stars for you, lady. I'd like to BE you, one day.

Another really class act. I like these respectful kill videos. We all need to have a better connection to our food.

A lot more interesting and less macabre than I thought it would be.
