We found them later. Our chemists and physicists told us exactly how long it had been. We found them, still miming gestures they had learned from their makers, their masters. We did not know if they were acting out rituals of love or hate, of spirituality or eroticism, of the mind or of the flesh. We were ignorant of the purpose but the ritual continued, mechanical flesh collided with mechanical flesh and the simulacra of a long dead race echoed cries that no sentient being could ever truly understand.
Some of us thought it should all be destroyed, some of us thought it must be preserved at all costs.
I still don't know who was right.
I still don't know if I was saved or damned by what I did when the order came. But still, I am satisfied.
