12 seems like it was the franchises' last hurrah. It peaked with 6, but wasn't really bad until 11, and 12 seemed like it might be getting a resurgence and going off in an exciting new direction.

Then 13 pooped all over that, 14 raped the corpse, and now Square is hemorrhaging money like they're the US government. Oh, well.

The problem I've had with Final Fantasy games is there's really no way to fail at them outside the hilarious extra bosses. The more recent games have fixed this - somewhat - but these days I tend to rely on Atlus for a good old-school RPG with some actual difficulty to it.

I'm one of the 5 people out there that thought 12 was REALLY good, but I've never played the MMOs and 'tolerated' would be the best word to use for 13. I've heard that 14 sucks though. Most reviews have said it has a really cool class system but no game to do anything with your cool character in. Oh well, I stick with games I only pay for once...

Over a year old now and still free which is only reason i play it from time to time, treating it like a really good looking fishing sim. The gameplay is "decent", being able to change jobs on the fly but it caused a lack of identity due to it allowing you to customise your ability load out combined with player allocated perma-stats that meant your 1 character could only be good at being either a mage or melee or shit at both, which went against the FF mmo formula of 1 character = good at all jobs.

There are many, many other problems with 14 which will take at least a another 1/2 year to get it to a 'release' state, but it did do one thing right. Took the old japanese developers off 11 to work on 14 and left the young ones in charage who changed 11 into fun game, an unrecognisable game from what it was a year ago. Sadly the 11 evoluation hasn't lasted as they took the new team leads off 11 to fix 14.

11 and 12 are the last good FF games, 13 is terrible.

I thought 13 wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be - seemed like everyone was quick to jump on the hate band wagon. Yes, it was linear for the first 20 hour or so, and Snow and that bitch-girl was super annoying, but the good stuff outweighed the rest. To me, it had the best battle system of any FF, and I especially loved the manic, crazy final boss battle.

12 is fantastic, as are the Game Boy gaidens. I think it has to do with FFTA being a fundamentally awesome game. If they'd just make games within Ivalice, I'd continue buying them, I love the setting so much I'd even table top with it.

All music is just a series of notes played within a scale, though. Whether it's 3 notes or the entire scale doesn't matter. It's how you dress it up that matters.
