The best thing to do in a hostage situation is to start blindly shooting at the hostage takers.

Lucky he's only getting fired.

Also it's not wrongful termination, you gun slut. he broke a company policy. You don't get a free pass if you're a good worker and then intentionaly do something against policy.
kwash
Yeah, starting a gunfight unnecessarily risked the lives of every bystander.

Just a bad idea in general. It's certainly "badass" I guess, in an action movie sense, but in reality, stupid and dangerous. Not just for yourself, but everybody nearby.

Cena_mark
Its a stupid policy. If somebody points a gun at you its a threat on your life. Misfires happen and I wouldn't want a thug pointing a gun at me. .
The only thing the guy did wrong was miss those punks.

namtar
Walgreens has every right to fire him. Bringing a gun to work is against almost every company's policy.

However, why did these guys try to rob a Walgreens and not a bank? It's because they know that there is no security at a Walgreens and their employees are told just to comply.

Workers at fast food places, convenience stores, and any place open late or with poor security are often robbed and the employees killed.

Their employers don't really care to hire security guards or close at a decent hour since that would cut into profits. It's cheaper in the long run just to give robbers the money; and if an employee is killed by some thief it's no huge deal since the employee knew the risks when they started working there.

What happened to the libertarian utopia where all businesses make their own laws, Cena?

Your trolling is really bad lately.

Raggamuffin
Plus, smart companies open life insurance policies on their employees, so it's win-win!

Cena_mark
What about an employee's right to defend himself? Some large corporation has a large blanket no guns policy that covers all stores from small towns in Vermont to South Central LA. There's places in this country where a person would be a fool not to be strapped.
I'm a Libertarian, but I'm a bit less dogmatic than most.

SolRo
So corporations should be able to discriminate all they want, except when it effects something you like?

EvilHomer
Cena, if Walgreens doesn't respect his right to go vigilante on some robbers, he's better off leaving and seeking employment elsewhere.

Like the Coast Guard!

Cena_mark
Who said I was for discrimination? I hate Rand Paul.
Sure they can go join the Coast Guard, but the man obviously took pride in his job and didn't want any assholes robbing his store and harassing his employees.

Potrod
Gun law debate aside, closing stores early because places occasionally get robbed (which happens during the day, too) would be lame. Sometimes you need food at 3 AM.

I know it's a terrible cliche, but this just cries out for some Yakkity Sax.
charmlessman
It REAAAALLY does.

The video's pretty amazing. The youtube page says the robber actually tried to fire at him first but the gun didn't work. Fuck the job, if that's true this dude's really lucky.

I hope this pharmacist doesn't become an NRA shill though because they're going to come out of the woodwork and offer him a pile of cash.
EvilHomer
Doesn't that crazy pharmacist know guns can HURT people?!
Void 71
Poor bastard. He gets fired at first (1:05 - 1:10), picks up his gun and starts shooting back (1:11) and ends up losing his job over it. Then his awful experience turns into a gun control debate on the internet. At least he isn't dead, I guess. That's a definite plus.

Accidie
Really? Everybody on here being critical of him, think about if it was you. You think you'd be thinking about policy and the wealth of invisible bystanders? If you would actually be thinking of that when a masked man hops a counter to hold a gun to your head, then you're the unreasonable one.
sosage
I wouldn't be carrying a gun to work like a fucking psycho in the first place. I've been in similar situations. Thousands of people who work convenience/counter jobs have. Amazingly, the majority of us tend to survive these encounters without trying to replay the opening scene from Cobra.

sosage
P.S. Phoning 911 in clear sight of the robbers during the robbery. That's really fucking intelligent and will not cause them to do bodily harm to anyone in the store.

kamlem
P.P.S. Wearing a short skirt in clear sight of some gang rapists in a dark alley. That's really fucking intelligent and will not cause them to do bodily harm to anyone in the alley.

kingofthenothing
I'm not critical of him. I know it's hard to keep your hand steady when you're pissed off and the adrenalin's pumping through your veins. I like how he chased after the guys. Shows real initiative. He was probably yelling at them, too, like "You want to kill me, motherfuckers?! You're going to have to bring your A game! Yeah, you go run tell THAT! *pop pop*"
Pompoulus
I bet he wishes you were around to spin it to HR.

Pistol packing liberal here.

I have no problem with what Jeremy Hoven did in self defense.

I hope he sues Walgreens for a mint.
