I totally thought something would work out in this case, that someone with an ounce of sanity would intervene at the last minute and fix this.
But this is Georgia we're talking about, apparently.

Well there was a couple decades there of trials and stays where he could have proved innocence.
The people that were the basis of his conviction reneged on their testimony. What kind of proof do you need?
Anax, he was proven black beyond a reasonable doubt.
Anax, once Davis was convicted, appeals courts would only consider either procedural faults in the original trial, or a new proof of innocence. The execution went forward because Davis, unlike hundreds of rape-murder convicts later exonerated, could not prove it wasn't his DNA. There was no physical evidence to refute.
As far as I'm concerned, pretty much all eyewitness identifications should be as inadmissible as hearsay. Alternatively, a third party with no interest in getting convictions should conduct all suspect lineups. Humans are bad at recording identity.
