I went there for a year.
Don't go there.

baleen - 2014-03-31 AND I saw Eugene Mirman when he was in college at the campus coffee shop open mic.

Nominal - 2014-03-31 I concur.
There's an urban legend that the five colleges in the area were models for the Scooby Doo gang. Velma and Daphne are Smith/Holyoke, Fred is Amherst (private preppy school), Shaggy is Hampshire (like, roll your own major, man), and Scooby is Umass (zoo mass).
They all fit.

baleen - 2014-04-01 The urban legend was repeated over and over again while I was there. Credence was lent to it because part of the story was that Scooby Doo was created by an Amherst grad (did Ruby or Spears go there? I have no idea), but some of the show's writers have said the myth is false.

Nominal - 2014-04-01 Emerson and Berkleee are nowhere near the five colleges area, but if you can write a convincing backstory, I'll buy it.

biclops - 2014-04-02 With a very passive interest in this subject, it took seconds to discover that Scooby Doo is older than Hampshire College. So good job, urban legends.
