And I bet the guys who design tanks make a lot more money.

You might be a king, or a VT650 truck-mounted street sweeper, but sooner or later you'll dance with the reaper!

This is because the VT650 truck-mounted street sweeper has an average operational life expectancy of 10-12 years, after which it will probably break down and need to be replaced with newer, more robust models.

Here is an interesting link. It will tell you all you need to know to get started on the road to becoming an effective street sweeper lifecycle-cost-analyst.

They woke you up too, huh? I like how, at least for me, they came on the few days when we had pretty heavy rain, after what was more-or-less a rainless summer and fall.

i live just to the south of you, kind of in the valley, in a smaller town, so the Portland sweepers don't bother me. Our sweeper comes by every friday and is a different, and older, model.

Oh yeah. I wish I was in Eugene or Salem. It's constant construction everywhere. If the big earthquake were to hit I wouldn't know at this point. I've gotten used to the constant shaking but I decided to follow around the street sweepers the other night. 3 of them were in a line, going down the street, on a rainy night all in cleaning mode.

Very convincing. I must have one..
Though in my experience whenever I've seen machines of this ilk (big truck mounted ones or the small ones which the operator walks behind) they seem to be extremely ineffective, not actually picking up rubbish, more just moving it around and leaving an annoying trail of wet road/footpath in its wake.
imo a man with a broom is far more effective.

The point of street sweeping isn't to sweep the streets. It is for the city to make money on issuing parking tickets.
