SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-12-03
I like Plinkett's evisceration of George Lucas' films, but now that Abrams is in charge, the reviews aren't going to be anywhere near as entertaining.
...I hope.

infinite zest - 2014-12-03 Also this review brought to my attention the Jurassic World Trailer. Didn't know it was out. THAT is exactly how you make a trailer. Wasn't John Sayles supposed to be writing it or something though? It just looks like Jaws 3. Whatever I'll watch it.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-12-03 Jurassic World looks bad to me. It says something when bringing dinosaurs to life isn't enough, the movie has to let you know that they've made Dino-zilla, since actual dinos aren't worth seeing anymore.
And bubble-cars.
IMHO, I think the JP franchise should have done what the Aliens franchise didn't do (and this goes for Crichton's novels, too): Let the monsters get loose on the planet. The velociraptors were all set to do that at the end of the first book, and the novels & movie wussed out. I mean, yeah, the movies let a T-Rex eat a dog, but so what?
|
infinite zest - 2014-12-04 That's a good point. Spielberg's vision wasn't in the book, and it pissed off readers of the book and movie-goers alike because it was fucking corny as fuck. The "let's try this again" mindset of InGen is what intrigues me. :)

I remember binging on these well before I realized that I used to work with these guys at the same movie theatre. Ironically, they left before we started getting the more mainstream movies in the summertime just to keep the place open.

As always good points (I had forgotten that he said that Abrams should've directed the first 3.) The #blackstormtrooper thing has become a big deal too (use your imagination) and he nails it better than anyone on the fucking Huffington Post could. And yes, that was front page huffington post news this morning.
Lightsaber? I don't know, those are 3 of the same stream, right? Kind of like a habitrail or any other tube? If its shell is broken it just turns into one regular lightsaber again I think. I don't know. I'm still waiting for my pizza rolls.
|
spikestoyiu - 2014-12-04 That doesn't make any sense. Someone on POETV said that everyone except for them overlooked the black stormtrooper.

James Woods - 2014-12-04
Here's my stupid theory.
The knight sabre is a relatively old weapon from back during the age of the Old Republic. The person holding it isnt a sith. The sabre found him... or her. Im guessing that character is about to meet her uncle Luke.
And whats up with the reckless falcon manoeuvre? Looks like a young man's move to me. Im betting Han's son took the Falcon against his permission.
Just a couple of Star Wars Rebels
Star Wars can still be awesome!

The Dark Side (bzzt...bzzt!)

Maggot Brain - 2014-12-04 I get the feeling that the Falcon only shows up at the end.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-04
Seriously, they can't expect us to stay excited for a whole year, can they? Check back with me after Age of Ultron is out.
The Episode 7 trailer doesn't look terribly spectacular or thrilling, and maybe that's a good thing. I don't care about the effects. To see the old stars together again with a good script, that's all it would take to have me gasping and cheering in my seat.

I feel weird saying this, but I'm more excited to see Plinkett's final review than I am the actual movie.

|
badideasinaction - 2014-12-04 My general expectation level has been pretty much shaped by the Star Trek reboot; episode 7 will be a competently entertaining action movie (with a bit more baggage than Star Trek because we're actually going to have to meet completely new characters) that will have enough character/visual nods to episodes 4-6 so give fans their moments, but probably won't give us the Joseph Campbell high space opera vibe we associate with the series. It'll make tons of money regardless.

The New Meat - 2014-12-04
Plinkett's complete disdain for fanboy nerd culture is what makes him great.

betamaxed - 2014-12-04
I don't know, I'm kinda just happy to see a black lead in a sci fi space war movie. The movie itself will probably just be new republic vs. imperial remnant eu garbage with nothing interesting to say. At least the prequels despite all its failings had a weird story about the failure of liberal democracy as told via the format a live action cartoon for 9 year old children sort of thing going on that I find oddly compelling.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-12-04
The light saber hilt didn't bother me at all.
The giant hamster ball in "Jurassic World", however, fills me with inexplicable visceral rage.

Kid Fenris - 2014-12-04
The few interesting points are smothered by a gimmick that was barely funny five years ago.
