God damn, Janet Weiss is still the most fucking amazing drummer. I'm going to see them April 19 in NOLA. Can't wait!

She is amazing. Quasi is my most favorite band ever.

The Mothership - 2015-03-08

Quasi kicks ass, and kicked ass live like a motherfucker.

Quasi still occasionally kicks ass live.. I saw them a couple of years ago open for The Clean. Sam was so fucking drunk, falling over on stage several times atop his keyboard.. overall it was a better show than The Clean. Featuring Birds quite literally saved my life once. :)

The Clean are awesome you useless shitnibbler.

I said "better show" not better band. Without The Clean, 90% of the music I like would probably not exist. Their set was just sloppy. X is another one of my favorite bands and when they got back together (again) in 2006-ish it was equally sloppy. A local band, Gimme an X, featuring Morgan Grace and Sam Henry from the Wipers, nail those same songs in a way that X just didn't, but it doesn't mean that I like them more than I like X.

It was kinda the crowd's fault though. It was like they heard about the show and only knew Tally Ho, like they had just downloaded a couple songs or something. And I was actually pretty happy that they in fact did not play Tally Ho.

I thought you hated Sleater Kinney, IZ?

I voted this up because I was hoping to see you take the piss out of it, but now I discover you were the one who submitted it!

Yeah, I remember saying that, but it was more having to do with the earlier stuff when they seemed like wannabe riot grrls (compared to Bikini Kill, Team Dresch, etc) on their first couple albums, and then abandoning the scene to make more poppy stuff which suited their style better, like the excellent All Hands on the Bad One, One Beat and (the excellent) The Woods. Still haven't heard the new one. I definitely don't hate them, and I kinda submitted this because of that previous sentiment. :)

Awww poo.

But then again I like new Arcade Fire and didn't care for the old stuff, which was closer to the Montreal scene.. Maybe it's just location.

cognitivedissonance - 2015-03-08

We do have some great smack.

Herr Matthias - 2015-03-08

Saw them in Omaha. Wasn't this close, unfortunately.

Yeah. The only time I saw them was like 18 years ago at this venue that's since closed down in Portland called La Luna and they were pretty bad. I think they were opening for Bratmobile, who kicked fucking ass. W/r/t my above comment, or my previous ones about Portlandia, they're super cool in person. Janet likes to go to the same bar that I do and I don't talk to her but we recognize each other because I do extra work on that show and she's been on several other episodes, along with Kaia Wilson and others involved in the Olympia scene. I guess if I had a problem with SK's defection, well, the whole movement was a bit like Gamergate really. Personally, I had no problem making a mixtape that switched from Bikini Kill to Easy E. In fact I liked the juxtaposition. Here's some "fuck you" song and here's a "fuck you song." Perspectivally it was just kinda funny. So in a way SK's move to Portland was kinda like if Rockstar offered Anita Sarkeesian a job and she took it. But they still kick ass.
