So I briefly met him last week while h was in town working on a new travel book and the weird thing is he looks more like Michael Palin in real life than he does on the screen, if that makes sense.

It's rare I bump into someone famous that I actually give a shit about, so that's cool. Apparently Shia LeBouf came in where I work last year and I guarantee if I'd been around that day I wouldn't have even known he was famous, much less who he was. I'm trying to think of a movie he's been in right now and I can't.

That's cool! I got to see John Cleese when he was doing shows to pay for yet another divorce. He's extremely tall and has a huge gut!

I'll watch this later... I've seen Palin's travel shows, read his travel books and one big volume of his diaries. Smart guy and he's really funny in The Death of Stalin.

Nice, how was Cleese?

Terry Jones always seemed like the coolest of the bunch by far but I found out recently he developed aphasia in 2015 and had lost most of his ability to use or comprehend spoken language.

Palin was definitely my second choice out of the living Python members though, and he seemed pretty genuine.

If I had a valid pretext I'd have hung out.

Cleese was really nice. But if you've seen him lately in interviews, he's super intelligent but acts like a prick.

The Pythons knew what was going on with Terry Jones when they did their last big show, if you watch it you'll notice he's hardly in it, and he's always sitting down and reading a cue card.

They've all gone very reactionary/Oxbridge-Tory in the last few years, lots of polemic about "PC" etc but Palin has been one of the holdouts until this year when he was sorta steered toward it by a Tory BBC guy Shane Allen.

Their time has long since passed but if any of them survive to keep it alive, I hope it's Palin tbqfh.

When this started, I thought "Oh wow. North Korea has really made a lot of progress. Very impressive."

Then he mentioned that he was starting his documentary in China, he filmed the crossing of the Yalu, and at the first North Korean train station I thought "Ah yes. That's the North Korea I recognize."

BTW, the second (and final) episode is also worth checking out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qS8w9PIR7I
