My question, and it's a serious question for which serious answers are welcome, is what would happen if, as in 2016, Democrats win the popular vote but because of the way the system is set up they don't win the offices?
What happens if a clear majority of the people are denied because of a bureaucracy designed to stack the deck in favor of the minority? Can we still consider ourselves a "democracy?"

Hazelnut - 2018-11-01 The frustrating answer is yes, we're still a democracy, just a very imperfect one. As David Chappelle said, "The Russians didn't make America racist." Gerrymandering, big data, and Russian trolls can deliver the election to the side with only 47%, 48% of the votes... but the real horror is that the alt-right is getting anywhere near double-digits; they should be floating down near the margin of error with the Communists and Nazis and the rest of history's garbage bin. That they're up around 40% speaks to something terribly wrong in the Western soul, and that's what needs to be fixed.
