If they were capable of motivating themselves to do these things, they would already be doing them.

Binro the Heretic - 2024-05-06 Don't get me wrong. I know this will work on a lot of people, but a lot of it feels like, "Have you tried NOT suffering from depression?"
And really, some of it even feels like victim-blaming as if people suffering from depression brought it on themselves by doing life wrong.
If you're really fucked up, a self-help book, motivational speech or a set of lifehacks aren't going to be effective.
Most of these self-destructive habits come from feeling lonely and feeling you don't matter to the rest of the world. And our society seems to have been precision-engineered to encourage loneliness.

This is great, provided you have a job that schedules you at regular hours instead of on an as-needed basis and you live in a place where the cost of living is low enough that you can afford a multi-room dwelling and also the weather is nice enough and the neighbourhood safe enough to enjoy time outside and also that you are only working the one job so you have the free time to go on nice walks. This is very nice advice for those people.
