There is a group of performers who are petitioning it for the Olympics. I don't think it's going to show up any time soon, but I've seen more and more videos appearing of women showing off their athletic prowess in this manner while remaining clothed, so there might be an underground campaign in the works too.
Also: Ouch.

It's just a matter of presentation. People would be much more accepting of "Freestyle Vertical Bar" than Pole Dancing.

They'd love it. They'd love it because every four years they'd get to go around saying "you know it's really pole dancing, right?" they way that people do when they think they're the only one in on some banal-ass "secret."
