When I was growing up in a fundamentalist (white) Baptist church, the tacit understanding was that we were to be friendly with the black Baptist church nearby, but I always got the hint that somebody at the black Baptist church specifically told the white Baptists to not involve themselves.

We did share the summer baptism picnic, that was nice.
