The cut scenes are terrible. The actual game play is actually way better then every other sonic game since sonic 06'. If you can put up with sonic and tails spouting retarded shit every hour or so you'll be alright for the rest of it I think.

Xenocide - 2011-08-11 Is it actually good, or just "sonic good?"

Riskbreaker - 2011-08-11 I also heard the gameplay was decent, but i'm sure as hell not going to sit down and watch hours of furry fan-fiction just to enjoy a "decent" sonic game. I can just put Sonic CD again and have fun with a truly good game.

RocketBlender - 2011-08-11 I gave it a shot when I noticed it was getting a lot of 8/10+ scores. It's really not that great. Is it the best sonic game in half a decade? Yes, but that's only because they got the framerate up to about 22 and speed boost pads aren't instant death. It's still not 'good' by the standards of anyone but a Sonic fan.

Of course every single yt comment is about the voice actors, not about the quality of the writting.

The original Nights was the last great game to come out of Sonic Team. Some people would say Burning Rangers, but that game didn't do it for me.
Does anyone remember the interactive menu in Sonic Jam for Sega Saturn? I had more fun with that than I did with Sonic Adventure. I'm assuming its been downhill from there since I haven't actually played a Sonic game since then. I figure that anything that bares the Sonic label at this point is bound to be either a cynical retro retread or furry fan service garbage with plenty of awkward cutscenes.

the DS Sonic games are actually pretty fun, classic speedy gameplay and big roller coaster-y levels, but then again I think only one of them was actually done by Sonic Team themselves

The "Baldy McNosehair" thing made me laugh.

I actually just bought this game from the bargain bin because I'm a sucker for anything that has Robotnik in it. Naturally, the villain stole the show as always.
But, was this game so bland. The environments were beautiful, but why would you want to enjoy that when the game forces you to haul ass for 99% of the duration? I feel that after the travesties of the previous games, SEGA was playing it safe with this one which made the whole game feel short and unexciting. Sadly, the ending is so anti-climatic as well since the ending consisted of one Eggman boss in the whole game. Quick Step was also terrible.
But the lines - oh god, only Heroes was so much cheesier in delivery. I wanted Tails and Sonic to shut their flap hole for most of the cutscenes. Eggman and his two robot lackeys were the only things entertaining and not mind numbing about the writing. When Sonic mentioned something about lame lines, I'd like to think that the writers were consciously self-projecting onto his own dialogue.
BONUS FACT: The writers are Ken Pontac & Warren Graff of MadWorld and Happy Tree Friends fame. At least some of their talents weren't wasted on the Robotnik dialogue (which unfortunately you can barely hear due to the background music in levels.)
