I dare you to find another game that has aged as well after 14 years. I remember downloading the demo overnight (56k days) and showing it off to my friends for weeks afterwards.
I still install it now and again and marvel at how freaking beautiful it is.
If any game deserves the "games as art" tag, this game does.

Never played the game, but these stars are for Barber's Adagio for Strings as an Agnus Dei.

My favorite series, to this day. Relic mentioned that they'd "like to develop Homeworld 3" in 2011, but we haven't heard anything since. These days they're riding the Warhammer 40K and Company of Heroes train, which I can't slowing down any time soon.

Kabbage - 2013-02-08 Found mine a few years back during a move. Still a great read.
There's not many games that put you in a world and a universe like Homeworld. The backstory's a treat, but I love that it's not even the history, but the places themselves. The Garden of Kadesh, the Karos Graveyard, the first encounter with the Bensui in the Great Wastelands... all stick vividly in my memory.

Best. Game. Ever.
I captured almost every friggin' ion cannon frigate in The Bridge Of Sighs mission. Final battle was a breeze: kinda hard for the enemy to touch you when you have 120+ ion cannons deployed in sphere formation around your mothership.
Oh, I also replayed the mission where you had to save the cryo-trays until I'd saved them all.
That game was AWESOME.

Kabbage - 2013-02-08 Yessss
One of my favorite things about this game was how you could make a task force of like six salvage corvettes, put into teams of two, and take capital ships during engagements.
At the end of the game I had this totally badass rag-tag fleet of Raider Ion Array frigates, Kadeshi Multi-Beam Frigates, Pirate Heavy Corvettes, and a couple of Swarmer fuel pods (though these were useless... they looked pretty cool, though). Tried capturing the Kadeshi needle Mothership and the Pirate Mothership too, with 7 salvage teams on each, but no dice - it would just spin around in place shooting aimlessly while my ships tried to drag it to the hanger.

This was actually my first tactical game. It took me a while to get used to sending little digital dudes out to die.
Fortunately, I got used to it by the time "Sacrifice" came out.

Did anyone else love the Bentusi? I love anyone that shows up and gives me awesome tech/backstory in a game.
|
Binro the Heretic - 2013-02-08 I loved them. I even forgave them for scaring the piss out of me when they made first contact.
"Oh fuck! What is this? What's happening. Oh my God, that thing is huge! What's it doing? OH, SHIT! IT'S TURNING AROUND! OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT!!!"
