If you're interested in that sort of thing, there's a 4 CD set floating around out there of sound engineering by Alan Splet who's generally regarded as the father of all modern foley/sound engineering. He was close friends with David Lynch and did most of the weird ambient sound work on stuff like Eraserhead, Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Dune.
The guy's stuff is amazing considering it was done in the pre-digital era.
