Wow. I only made it 3 minutes in, but EVERYTHING! The music is straight-up Angelo Badalamenti. I think the novel it was based on was around before the series (it says 1991, but I'm optimistically assuming the author didn't just crap it out while watching Twin Peaks..)
The only major difference I can ascertain (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that Laura (DJ) is a lost soul kind of like Casper the Friendly Ghost, not Casper Van Dien. Lots of shows take place in small towns, so that's excusable, but everything else is just so obvious. Maybe NBC thought nobody watched Twin Peaks.
well, that a girl named Laura was the town's darling, her loss is felt by everyeone, if you watch further a roiling conspiracy is revealed underneath the pleasant surface of the idyllic town.
It turns out the murdered girl was involved in sordid affairs and wasn't the all american girl everyone thought she was....
...Strange dreams play a central role in unraveling the secrets behind Laura's death
Strange dreams...and the color blue!
I'd almost go so far as to excuse the whole "all american girl gone wild" thing too, as that's like 75% of Law and Order and other crime show episodes. This is just like, wow.
Oh man, I never heard of this but I'm looking forward to watching it! 5 preemptive stars.
I used to be so boners for DJ back then I'm surprised I never watched it. I wonder what she's up to n.. HOLY SHIT!
(Protip: If you're going to look up pictures of girls you were boners for in the 90s, don't look up Yasmine Bleeth.)
