When garbage cultures collide.

cognitivedissonance - 2015-03-16

Hey hey. Cornette is an artist. He's possibly one of the last artists living.

Professional wrestling is the last genuine performance art we have.

OxygenThief - 2015-03-16

"Hey society, here's a mirror, which I will smash over your head when the ref isn't looking."

Cena_mark - 2015-03-16

Wrestling is not a garbage culture. Juggalo wrestling is garbage, but wrestling has a long and great history and lots of great people involved.

EvilHomer - 2015-03-16

Here's a question: how many Make A Wish kids asked to meet yogarfield last year?

CIWB - 2015-03-16

That's not even a slight justification of professional wrestling. Everyone involved could be a cross between Francis of Assisi and Nikola Tesla and it would still be garbage culture.

cognitivedissonance - 2015-03-16

GARBAGE CULTURE IS STILL CULTURE

Cena_mark - 2015-03-16

Please explain why its garbage culture. You're just basing your views on old stereotypes that portray wrestling fans as stupid rednecks. You're views are garbage. You're just a bunch of dumb haters.

yogarfield - 2015-03-16

Cena, I'm not hating. When I was a kid, my brother and friends would film our own wrestling matches with pastiche characters like "Rock Hot Steve Boston", "The Blundermaker", "Stung" and others. Hell, there is footage somewhere of me in a straw hat, doing my best Jarrett Jeff with a guitar that read "DON'T MAKE ME MAD".

And actually, what coggy says is quite relevant. I seem to recall him once remarking on his love for "cultural fecalphilia". That phrase sums up everything I love about this place, so don't take offense by my use of the word garbage.

And to Homer: None so far this year, but don't call me when you're lying on your deathbed in the flickering glow of a tv set on which I'm hoisting the championship belt. I'll call you out, brother!

joelkazoo - 2015-03-17

Funny you bring up Make A Wish, EvilHomer. John Cena actually holds the record for most wishes granted through them by a country mile, granting his 400th wish last February, and adding more constantly, already surpassing 450. That's fucking classy!...or did you know that, and brought it up to be clever?...I think you did...ahem...

Cornette can be pretty clueless about how the business works nowadays, but he's full of great stories.

EvilHomer - 2015-03-17

It was actually a multi-layered comment! First layer, it was meant as a defense of wrestling; illustrating the positive influence that pro wrestling has on society. Second layer, it was a dis directed at yogarfield; John Cena is one of the worst wrestlers in history, so by juxtaposing John Cena with yogarfield, I am implying that yogarfield is worse than the worst wrestler.

Cena_mark - 2015-03-17

Yogar, your parodies are no better than those from the Flintstones crossover.

Carl Woodward - 2015-03-17

you are stupid and should not have opinions about anything

yogarfield - 2015-03-17

Oh dearie, how precious!

memedumpster - 2015-03-18

Jesus, the Greeks gave us two things that we found worth keeping and it's wrestling everyone is mad is rigged, scripted, and monetized.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-03-16

Why don't you tell us how you really feel about them, Jim?

Scrimmjob - 2015-03-16

I will say that "Stranglemania" the video corny is talking about ICP stealing was really funny when I first saw it,

EvilHomer - 2015-03-17

Jim Cornette is such a butthole. What did he ever do that was so great, huh? Trashtalking Vince Russo and apparently being unaware that Juggalos ARE a religious community. He's right about the ICP being a pair of spineless, cowardly pussies ("cautious, professional businessmen", if you want to be nice about it), but almost everything else Cornette says is BS.

EvilHomer - 2015-03-17

The thing that really gets me about Cornette is how so many of his rants can be boiled down to the statement: "The wrestling industry has ceded too much power to the consumers, and I am upset over the resultant loss of privilege!"

Cornette is an arrogant, hopelessly out-of-touch, elitist pig. He sees wrestling fans - his own customers - as a pack of inbred servile morons, and feels genuinely threatened when the working classes do something other than dance jigs for all the bright, sparkly bullshit that he jangles in front of their eyes. He makes some good observations - a lot of good observations, actually - but the perspective he comes from and the conclusions he draws are almost invariably awful.

EvilHomer - 2015-03-17

God, I hate him so much. I just listened to three more of his podcasts on the way home, and each one of them was filled with more old-man-butthurt than the last. ICP may be a pair of idiots, but at least they're better than Jim "the biggest name on my resume is Mark Henry" Cornette.
