Check out this wannnabe nerd trying to make a Mario reference. Any gamer worth their salt would've stuck a W on El Chapo's hat and called him Wario. It shouldn't come as a surprise that a Sarkeesian supporter like Oliver doesn't know jack shit about gaming.
5 stars for Laibach, though.
Listen to yourself.
As an Obese-American, Mario has rights, rights which you are violating with your hate-words, Caminante!
Although technically, John Oliver makes the better reference. Why? Because Mr. Oliver mentioned Mario in connection to the shower's *plumbing*; Mario is a plumber, Wario is not (he is a thief and treasure hunter by trade, similar to Lara Croft or Nathan Drake).
Granted, yes, El Chapo is probably a little closer, personality-wise, to Wario than he is to Mario. But again, plumbing was the context of the joke, so Mario was the better choice.
He might have also likened El Chapo to Princess Peach, and El Chapo's henchmen to Mario, which would have then given him cause to go on a Sarkeesian-style rant about how sexist the Mexican government is, locking drug princesses like El Chapo in a cell and then forcing them to be "rescued" by MEN, but John Oliver only has a limited time to work with material before his producers shut him off.
On the other hoof, Mario rarely tunnels, so if you wanted to use a video game as an illustration for this story, you'd be better off with something like Minecraft, or Dig Dug. Unfortunately, neither Minecraft nor Dig Dug are particularly sexist, so it's probably best to just leave them out of the discussion entirely; they do not "fit" with the needs of the narrative, and thus can be ignored.
Dig Dug fat shames, and I'm pretty sure Minecraft's general lack of curves does the same.
Laibach is going to topple North Korea.
I saw Laibach in SF. One of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Laibach are the greatest trolls ever. I can't wait to hear them cover the sound of music.
"When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad"
Did you see this documentary? I think it's on poe.
