In my high school days I was a rpg guy, and on some band trip I was hanging out with some other kids and talked about the game I was into then. probably the awful street fighter game. One mormon kid started freaking out and asked if I was invoking satan, had a bunch of other questions. I had my stuff (I was an rpg guy, right?) so I said, look, we'll make you a guy, I'll do a quick game, you can quit if it gets weird, I'll never bring it up again.
A short vanilla-save-the-girl-session and he was all "That's it?"
He seemed kind of disappointed we weren't cutting up cats or having gay rpg sex.
I have no idea what's become of him, but at least he had an open mind.

my mother was legitimately concerned when i decided to buy one of those monstrous compendiums as a kid (i think it was probably a 2nd ed greyhawk one) which was funny considering there was no concept of "the occult" in our casual mormon household

just goes to show how deep america's love affair with satan was in that era

also because it's important i kept the pages in a trapper keeper

It's pretty hard to top Redemption; arguably the pinnacle of Christian attempts to one-up tabletop RPGs and card games. They actually got some well respected artists to work on it and it was professionally produced....just a really dumb boring game. Later they turned into a CCG when CCGs were really becoming massive and again, it had pretty good production values, but the whole theme of saving souls was just not something anyone cared about. The Redemption CCG still exists and still being made by the same company, but they lost their staple of professional artists long ago so the newer cards use an awkward mix of obviously licensed and/or public domain religious art from pre-existing sources or images that look like random finds on DeviantArt.

But... Gary Gygax was a fervent and devout 7th Day Adventist, and Dragonlance was by Mormons.

I do NOT cast "cake-making!"
