Codename Viper was a good NES game. One of the top underrated ones.

This game was in one of the go-to sub shops when I was in grade school but it destroyed me. Looked great, but ate quarters like nothing I'd seen since they got rid of Jungle Hunt.

I don't remember it having music at all, I think they might have disabled it.

I could never get that far in this game when I tried it in a local arcade when I was 8. The villain control room screen would mock me in the cutscenes.

Then one of the biggest "holy shit" moments of my childhood was when a small crowd had gathered around some teenager making it to the end. I could just barely see through the taller crowd to catch a glimpse of the control room area...but it wasn't a cutscene! He was actually playing in that area! The final level! Holy shit!

It was like reaching the final dungeon of Karateka times ten.
