I'm almost glad I've never experienced one of these.

Jerry Lewis was always incredible live, half genius and half train wreck. I remember when he used to guest host on the Tonight Show. He would attack the cameras, insult the sponsors... ANYTHING for a laugh!

The yearly labor day telethon, of course, was more complex. As his health declined, Lewis would take a few hours off in the middle to rest. Before that, he would go all night, and by the final hour, it was a meltdown, culminating in Lewis singing "You'll Never Walk Alone", sometimes weeping, other times cracling jokes. I would always try to catch that last crazy hour.

I'm assuming it was 4 AM and he knew his audience at the time.

He'll make you laugh, a lot.
