I like it. Pretty raw and meandering but passionate and interesting. The band kinda disowns it but it belongs in the continuum.

I bought an album from them after I heard them on the 28 Days Later soundtrack

Cool

I guess I'm missing the "long lost" part because I thought this was easily accessible? It's long enough to admit that "allthelightsfuckedonthehairyampdrooling669" was my AIM password 20-something years ago.

It's probably the snob in me, but I kinda wish GYBE had stayed gone. The fact that the rough and reeky friendly folk I'd met (#namedrop) are now people with mortgages, children, and sell their albums at Urban Outfitters kind of kills the allure that they had built up.

Still 5 for Godspeed. It's pretty much all I ever listened to when I was a kid.

I too hate seeing unique and talented musicians succeed. When a musician starts to realize that living in the basement of a condemned building won't stick it to the man, the light implanted in their palm should start flashing and they should willingly enter Carousel.

(Carousel is an overdose.)

@jangy I've had this album on my computer since maybe 2000? So I dunno.

@twojar Oh come on. I've met them several times, and a moment that stands out is in LA in the mid 2000s as ASMZ. A house show was sold out, and then a smaller venue sold out, and they finally had to relocate to a place in Hollywood.

Efrim was pissed about the venue because it had a disco ball, and also at how many people showed up because wanted that basement show. There's a recording somewhere where he laments something to the tune of "Welcome to the house cocaine built. We're gonna try to get through this, hope you can get through it too."

One of the first times they played "Some fucking car with gull wing doors" was in a douche-riddled club with $15 dollar beers and a pissed off bathroom attendant who gave up on giving towels, soap, cologne and condoms to everyone who isn't tipping because they've never been anywhere near that situation.

They are deservedly successful, but some of the soul is stripped from their newer work because they bought that fame by becoming the thing they hated.

I'm not one to talk though. I'm a failed member of the 27 club. I keep falling in love and having long-term relationships into my mid-30s. Someday my dog will stop whimpering sweet puppy dreams, my partner will leave me, and then I'll be free.

Holy shit where'd that come from?

Soooooo...track by track, you can confirm what's in this Youtube video is real?

yogarfield - 2022-02-06

You meant to reply to me, but there were several versions floating around on SLSK over the years. The 24 track version and the 28 track version are legit This is the one that compiles "Three three three" into one track not three parts, and another outro or two are compiled as well. There's a muddled history including versions with 31 tracks because people were ripping and denoting tracks how they felt it was where the songs began and ended, and somebody threw in a Fly Pan Am track at some point.

I had maybe 5 versions archived that were just floating around since the early 2000s, and that's why it's weird that people are treating this like an hotmint NFT. I must have gotten lucky, because I have had the 24 track with this runtime since 2002.

If this is what people are saying is real, it's old news and it's not the one of the ones with the fake tracks. But you know, kids will be kids. Let them like their music.

It's funny how there are different islands of fandom like that. A similar thing happened when Coldspring records released the lost 1995 Coil album Backwards. I'd been looking high and low for anything from this album for over a decade, and no sooner had it been released than someone in the Coil Facebook group (so, I guess I hadn't been looking EVERYWHERE) pointed to a Soundcloud playlist that was years old, and was like "Why is this news?"

In the following weeks I discovered about four different 'versions' of the album, with slightly different mastering, slightly different runtime on certain tracks, etc.

It's not hard to see how very early fans of the band could be almost completely isolated from later generations of fans (who have absolutely no idea what Soulseek is), and how someone with a big enough mouth stumbles onto some old tracks and turns it into an inflection point for the music press.

@leviathant Yeah, it's bizarre. Semi-doxxing myself, but if you look through the YT comments in this video, I get lambasted by some spazzes for simply saying "Oh, I've had this forever."

I got everything from very angry accusations of being a liar, to me being a moron for not cashing in on some bounty that's been on some message boards for a while.

News to me, but even if I saw that I would have kept it to myself. Call me crazy, but even though they're old, the first words that come to mind regarding them aren't "craven capitalism".
