The Israeli government is to the Israelis what Hamas is to the Palestinians.

Neither cares about the people they purport to care about. In fact, they both love it when the other side hurts the people they claim to care bout so they can recruit extremists from the ranks of the victims and escalate the violence against the other side.

My heart goes out to all the victims caught in the crossfire between these assholes.

Toenails - 2023-10-16

this is true.

The Likud in charge do not care about the Jewish portion of their country.

Neither does Hamas, They don't care about those folks they are responsible for either, which are mostly children.

Crackersmack - 2023-10-17

There is no equivalence, and trying to make one is a denial of the exceptionally inhumane and abhorrent conditions that the Palestinians have been held in for generations now. Violence (even "terrorism") against racist, militarized colonial settlers that are in total control and domination of every aspect of your life is morally justifiable.

Hamas is the last resort of people that have no other option presented to them other than to just be quiet as they are starved, murdered, and tortured.

Israel is a racist colonial project that has been slow-walking a genocide for longer than I have been alive. People in Israel live in luxury, with all the trappings of modern western life, while among them surrounded by huge concrete walls is a population of millions of human beings (half of them children!) enduring unimaginable misery. Israeli soldiers shoot Palestinian civilians from atop this wall, and Israelis cheer when they hear the gunshots. The Israelis deny these people water, medicine, food. They forbid these people from leaving. They deny their very humanity, with even the defense minister of Israel feeling comfortable referring to Palestinians as 'animals' on TV. The dehumanization of Palestinians is official state policy of Israel.

No fucking equivalence.

Ten bucks says our resident libertarian retard is using every opportunity to be anti semitic with the 'cover' of this current event. Seems like what all the closet Nazis are doing.

Crackersmack - 2023-10-17

Gmork heard that Israel controls the food supply to Gaza and the West Bank and just reflexively sided with them because of if that.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2023-10-17

If the Netanyahu government doesn't give a fuck about the Palestinian people, and Hamas doesn't give a fuck about the Palestinian people, isn't that an equivalence?

I think Binro has it exactly right, although I've been even more checked out than usual this time. Like many Americans, I find the situation baffling, and I don't feel comfortable taking a position, and i'm beginning to believe that Israel takes advantage of the naivete of Americans like me. I don't know what's going on, but I'm losing patience with WE STAND WITH ISRAEL. It feels like a blank check.
There should be situations where we won't stand with Israel.

The reason why some people think 9/11 was an inside job is because the Bush administration used 9/11 to justify a whole lot of war and authoritarian bullshit, but no collusion was necessary. Bin Laden knew that he was provoking a response, and the response would good for him politically, at least until someone killed him.

None of these turds can possibly believe that more aggression will change anything. Not after all this time. It looks to me like there are plenty of people on either side who stand to gain influence if the violence and oppression continue, and if it ever looks like it will end, there's always someone who can keep it going.

glasseye - 2023-10-17

You can say that both Hamas and the Israeli government are doing awful shit AND recognize that the Palestinian people bear the vast majority of the harm from all of this.

More than one thing can be bad at once.

Crackersmack - 2023-10-17

Why would you say that Hamas doesn't give a fuck about the Palestinian people? Because you believe their actions will make the ongoing genocide happen more quickly? as if Hamas is up against some force of nature that just cannot possibly be expected to act humanely. It's the victims that have to fully prostrate themselves and play dead. And if that still doesn't work to stop Israeli aggression (as it hasn't) then too bad I guess.

And Israel more than 'doesn't give a fuck' about the Palestinian people, it is actively working to eradicate them. Lots of Israelis would tell you that Palestine and Palestinians do not exist already. Denial of their identity and their humanity is Israeli state policy and has been for our entire lives.

There's nothing to check out of here. There's nothing too confusing happening here. This is a rare case of very clear good and very clear evil. Your mixed feelings are a result of your eyes and your brain and your conscience seeing the ongoing genocide and recognizing it for what it is, conflicting with the strong influence that pro-war corporate neolib media has on your psyche.

Binro the Heretic - 2023-10-17

This isn't Jews vs Muslims.

It's two violent extremist groups who think their cause is so just and pure it excuses any horrible things they do, even to their own people. They're going at each other and don't care who suffers because, to them, winning is so much more important than anything else.

It's an old story.

The only way to totally solve this would be to set up a Palestinian homeland far away from Israel, but neither the Israeli government nor Hamas will allow that because it would would remove the need for torturing & murdering Palestinians and putting Israelis' lives at risk.

The extremists in the Israeli government are too paranoid to let the Palestinians out from under their boot and Hamas need Palestinians to be angry to entice new recruits.

You can say the Israeli government shares more of the blame since it has far more power on the global stage, but Hamas also wants Palestinians to suffer.

"Lots of Israelis would tell you that Palestine and Palestinians do not exist already. Denial of their identity and their humanity is Israeli state policy and has been for our entire lives."

yeah and you literally were saying the same argument about ukraine being "made up' so fuck your selective crocodile tears. A engineered famine and decades of russian imperialism you hand-wave away because it doesn't allow you to shit talk neoliberals, the united states, or re-litigate the fucking cold war. You give zero fucks about palestine beyond what points it can help you score in these pointles dick measuing contests

bunch of fucking dilletants

Crackersmack - 2023-10-18

yeah 100% fuck off with any attempt to equivocate the racist, illegitimate government in Ukraine with the genocide of Palestine, I'm not humoring that idiocy, not even as a troll. it's fucking disgusting to even have that thought. there's no 'engineered famine' or decades of Russian anything except in your retarded head.

'the only way to stop this' isn't to make the Palestinians OR the Israelis move away, it's for the fucking Israelis to stop committing crimes, and recognize the basic humanity of the Palestinians in their actions.

due to deliberate Israeli policy there's no chance of a two state solution anymore unless about 30 years of settlements are rolled back, which is possible but unlikely. the populations will have to integrate and the Israelis have to deal with that. they will also have to pay a price, probably in blood, for the heinous crimes they have committed. that's the only way to stop this. that IS how this will end. the only question is how long we stall it, and what we get out of that.

casualcollapse - 2023-10-17

Part of an overarching plan to radicalize Palestine to justify its annexation. Israel funded Hamas and helped them get to power to realize that goal.

Simillion - 2023-10-17

It sure would be nice to evict all of the current leading political party and reform the judicial powers of Israel which are holding back their social advancement.

Crackersmack - 2023-10-17

Clearly Israel is long overdue for some regime change.

interesting footnote is that Mehdi Hasan is one of three Muslim MSNBC commentators that have been suspended from the network without any reason being given in the last week
