The one thing that stands out most to me is this is what a real uniter looks like.

Too good to be President. And yet, here we are.

For the first time, in a long time, I'm optimistic. Enthusiasm or not, I look forward to the future now.

Also: "U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!"
thirteen3seven - 2008-10-24
That's the first time I've ever heard the "U-S-A" chant with genuine love behind it.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-24
There is a real difference between the Obama and McCain rallies in how people say it.

At McCain rallies its almost always chanted after an attack, or some form of division. "We're more patriotic than those guys," "our country is better than those guys," "this quality is American and that not" etc. At Obama rallies its chanted after a mention of possibilities for the future, inherent strength of the country, or a statement of unity.

Both groups are patriotic, both camps are proud of their country, but there is a difference in how the cheer is used, that reflects the tone of the respective campaigns.

We all knew back when it first started happening that that was seriously going to backfire. Many Republicans I know were extremely ashamed at the conduct of their party. Everybody, after all, has friends and family from all sides of the spectrum, and dividing the nation on such fascist terms is disgusting, primitive, boorish and dangerous.

It was just really depressing to live through that. I have to say it contributed to a lot of my sadness these years, but now I feel it may end, and even though times may be rough, at least there will be some optimism at the very top.

Camonk - 2008-10-24
Yeah, I like how the ONLY person Obama has contempt for is Palin, really, and her stupid divisiveness. Probably McCain, too, but he stuffs that down and hides it.

"...black, white, hispanic, asian, native american, young, old, rich, poor, gay, straight, city dwellers, farm dwellers, it doesn't matter, we're all together... and we're all gonna DANCE"

First president to be mixed into house song in a non-ironic way? We can only hope.
saitcho - 2008-10-24

This guy is popular with voters, but so was Hitler. Can't you people see what he's doing?
IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-24
Well, Hitler did pull Germany out of a recession.

voodoo_pork - 2008-10-24
Yeah, that is a pickle.

ihounokyaku - 2008-10-27
Good point. I'm never going to vote for anyone popular.
....or who owns a toothbrush because, presumably, Hitler had one too.
