With this video ended the chapter of my life when I stood in crowds of people.
pastorofmuppets
Just don't go to places where they do pyrotechnics indoors on a stage that holds three people.

1 for evil.

kiint
3 parts on this video really stand out:

1:50 when you see how many ppl are stuck in the door

4:50 when you realize anyone left in there is probably dead

9:12 when woman casually strolls by inferno whilst smoking a cigarette

Chancho
Every code rule is written in human blood.
baleen
oh shit, they caught the Great White thing on tape?
ugh.
Torture the Artist
I'm the biggest crybaby pussy on this website and this is not Ogrish shit.

I was going to say it was amazing how quickly this went wrong, but it wasn't. It was like these dumbfucks were TRYING to burn the building down.

Torture the Artist
you were...not who i meant to reply to there.

Frank Rizzo
morbid shit.

I remember making fun of someone pointing out that this place was turning into ogrish a while back.

dogs being skinned alive... now this... wtf...
Cleaner82
Hmm, yeah.

prang
I wasn't expecting this to be so horrifying. Stayed to the end to see if they managed to get everyone unstuck from the doorway. Looks like no. :(

:( :( :( :(
prang
Oh yeah and rating. As evil as this is, this is not the kind of shit I come to poetv to see.

Frank Rizzo
no shit. According to the wikipedia article 100 people died and 230 people were injured.

can we please stop posting this gorey shit? More cat videos, or annoying video game reviews... anything.

FABIO
Jesus Christ. Did you people storm out of your driver's ed class when they showed you highway accident scenes?

kiint
i got my cock out

The roof
The roof
The roof is on fire!

We don't need no water
let the motherfucker burn!

Okay, now to be serious. I've been one of the first people to the aftermath of a meth-lab explosion (yay Kentucky!) and two people were killed in it. This is 50 times more people dead in an accident that took 50 times longer to happen, which is a testimony to the amount of trust we put into the building and planning of other people.

I can't do any less than five stars for this one because the cameraman got out and stayed the heck out! Bonus for him staying out of people's way, too.

baleen
Technically actual video death is against the law here but Chet doesn't give a shit anymore.

We are simply feeds into his AdSense empire.

James Woods

Stile project shit.

Rape Van Winkle
Hear hear.

Frank Rizzo
noob angst

FABIO
Of course it's not the government's place to tell private business how it should be run. Over time, people will begin to seek out nightclubs with the safest self-appointed fire code rules and the market will naturally sort itself out.
Burnov
That cameraman was smart enough to start moving on out just as people started to point at the flames.

That's the difference between a dead concert goer and a living one.
James Woods
Good point. Somehow I hadn't noticed the educational value of this footage until you pointed it out, but displayed in this video is the difference in the reactions of a man ready on the job, and the blissfully intoxicated.

Beer commercials are forced to tell-us-so. The lesson is party responsibly.

Hooper_X
Fun fact: The cameraman who shot this was later held partially culpable for some of the deaths - he was actually doing a piece for local news on safety at nightclubs. Essentially, when he was shooting people trying to flee, he was also blocking the exit.

Also, apparently he left a tripod or some gear sitting right in the middle of the main entrance. The station settled out of court for about 30 million bucks.

William Batty
Gorey what? Bunch of pussies.

I'm William Batty, and these are indeed the exact sort of things I come to this site to see. Five stars all round!!!
snppls
This is not about being a pussy. It's about not having this website slide into a pile of crap where images of death are reduced to voyeurism and voting.

Frank Rizzo
you've submitted one video and it was about Jay z, stfu. No one cares about "William Batty"

If you want gore, go to ogrish or something, leave us alone.

Frank Rizzo
how long have you been her "WILLIAM BATTY!!!!"????

just curious, be honest.

James Woods
Yes, I'd like to recant my stars in light of what snppls said here.

kiint
hmm, I thought snappl3z neatly encapsulated the POE ethos pretty well

Walt Henderson
Until recently I too was one of the people five starring these videos. My reasoning was that watching such pure, unadulterated evil would help people develop a sense of compassion and appreciation for life. You, and your fellow edgy little sociopaths, have shown me that this is a very wrong idea.

kiint
geez, you have *WAY* too high expectations. I mean c'mon, really?? "a sense of compassion and appreciation for life"?? *MY* reasoning is that watching such pure, unadulterated evil as this will help people understand that if you are in this situation, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE. That's what I took away from it. Every single one of these stomach-turning videos has an important lesson, and *MY* expectation is that the more dreadful it is, the better the lesson remembered. Beats learning the hard way, i.e. dead.

Walt Henderson
Hey, like I said, clearly I was mistaken.

pastorofmuppets
the first rule is that it be entertaining.

klint, the problem with that mentality is it causes trampling. but good for you, i suppose.

Hay Belly
No, I'm William Batty

Discordia
I wouldn't have wanted to watch this right after it happened. But at this point it's morbid curiosity. It's interesting to see the madness of crowds. and how people respond in a emergency situation. Half were drunk. Others just happy their girlfriend made it out. I don't know if I'd have done anything different myself besides be clueless and and dumbstruck to what the fuck is going is on.

Code wise. Most shit is out of code. Where I live is out of code. It would be nice if you didn't have to $100's for the code books. Or even more permits. But the blame of this situation is squarely on the pyrotechnics guy. Completely stupid to even thing about setting anything flammable of in that building. But hindsight's a bitch.

And Then Explosions
I've never been in a fire or seen one of that magnitude, and didn't really comprehend how quickly it could spread until I watched that. Five for that alone.

But I found this video more disturbing and no one flipped their shit over it so who knows: http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=16452
Rape Van Winkle
Well they were Jews.

pastorofmuppets
that one was so crazy i just closed out without commenting or anything...can't speak for anyone else.

pastorofmuppets
not that i don't dig violent videos, it's just that this one was really long and depressing

Frank Rizzo
you've been on here what, for 3 weeks?
Frank Rizzo
damnit!!!

this was meant for "william batty" and his superior attitude.

oh well, he is after all "WILLIAM BATTY"!!!!!

Hooper_X
This is one of those things that everyone needs to watch the first little bit of, just to get an appreciation for how fast things can go wrong. Just turn it off after the cameraman gets outside.
Hooper_X
Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stationvictims.png Yikes.

godot
Aside from the crush pile-up at the front door, most who died from asphyxiation were disoriented and ran to dead-ends in a side room near the front entrance or the kitchen. Its hard not to imagine the scene; screaming, a black pall of acrid smoke burning your eyes and lungs, crawling on the ground towards an exit bumping into table legs and other collapsed victims, only to hit sheetrock between yourself and a pile of 31 others at the main entrance.

Then I think, these were White Snake fans, and the universe seems less arbitrarily cruel.

sheikurbouti
all my stars for the bellyaching about too much evil for the portal of evil plus bonus rizzplosion. ...particularly enjoy the metaphors involving descent. go watch fox.
benchmark
About a week before this fire, there was an incident at a Chicago club where there was a stampede. No fire there, but a very panicked crowd with many people wedged in a doorway.

The owners of this nightclub, who also partly owned the TV station that shot this video, wanted to do a piece on nightclub safety to show local viewers how safe their business was. The owners were slapped with a conflict of interest suit because of this, in addition to 100 counts of manslaughter.
benchmark
Also, I gave five stars not because I'm a spiteful dick or a gore fan, but because of how quickly and easily a clusterfuck like this can happen. So many people's fuckups lead to this, from whoever decided that highly flammable packing foam makes good building insulation, to the guy who set up the pyro display (although he was the only one out of everyone involved who actually accepted responsibility for the incident), to the bouncer who blocked an exit door telling patrons that it was "for band members only".

And Then Explosions
"to the bouncer who blocked an exit door telling patrons that it was 'for band members only'."

...expand on this please. Ideally with a link of some sort. Because holy shit what.

benchmark
There are probably more detailed accounts, but this is all I could find:

Scrotum H. Vainglorious
Fuck me I can't believe how quickly it spread.
themilkshark
I come to poetv to see this type of shit, so I guess that makes me anti-Frank Rizzo
stage
This is crazy and terrible, its going to make me appreciate fire codes and fire exits a lot more.
kiint
SEE WALT?!!

potvin
Were this video of something like the Dimebag Darrel murder then it would simply be gruesome, tasteless snuff and have no real viewing value and not belong on this site. This video is sobering.
JimL2
This was uploaded to YouTube by user "lifesafetysystems." Looks like there are about a million companies d/b/a Life Safety Systems in the US, almost all of them sell fire protection. But if you are a singer in a hair metal band and you are about to perish in a conflagration, you can do a lot worse than having your last published words be: "Wow! ... That's not good."
JimL2
p.s. on the upside, it's incredible how many people chose to smash in windows, pull prone bodies out of the door, etc. rather than run as far away as they could. On the downside, everything else. Holy shit this footage is almost too perfect.

oogaBooga
A galaxy of evil stars. But I can only give five.
Syd Midnight
If you have morbid curiosity you can look up the official FD investigation report into this. They built virtual models of the venue and used computers to simulate the fire. It's macabre but also interesting, in that they figure EVERYTHING out, so there is no mystery how or why. The place was a deathtrap.
benchmark
I assume you're talking about this one:
http://www.nist.gov/public_affairs/releases/Vol_I_NCSTAR2.pdf< br />
It's a very interesting read, if you've got the patience to download a 21 megabyte PDF file.

FABIO
Holy shit. It just gets worse the more you read. The first fire truck to the scene carried ONE firefighter and fire officer. It's like the Titanic of building fires.

It's also appropriate to once again point out that the one-starrers are raging idiots.

roscar
:(
Banal Intercourse
< 5:00 response time from the fire department. Not bad.
Syd Midnight
But because of the way the place was built, almost everyone was dead within 4 minutes. Not good.

Sacks5thAvenButt
I couldn't watch the whole thing...
paparatti
I don't even know how to star this. 5 for honesty that is badly needed in today's day and age, but zero for hell on earth that we all need less of. Gonna go with the first, because truth wins out. Holy crap though. Once I saw the sheer amount of people stuck in the doorway... *shudder*
