An amazing movie. I never want to see it again, though.

Oh phew, the black kid will have a gun! This gonna turn into a gunfight! Oh what? Lame, black kid. Lame.
PS: These kids were ugly, but not nearly ugly enough to be real school shooters.

only gus van sant could create a 10 minute school shooting sequence that was totally dull as fuck

sorry, this fails on every level. was it made for lifetime?
The funniest thing about him is that he started racking up serious respect once he decided to start using 100% recycled material - borrowed events, borrowed cinematic ideas, in one case borrowing an entire movie. In other words the queen bee of queer cinema is world renown for his shallow glosses of other people's material. It was pretty daring how he suggested that the gunmen might be not straight but rather in fact be gay.
They kissed each other because neither of them had kissed anyone before, not because they were gay you moron.
Right, I imagine the conversation went something like the scene in The Big Picture where J.T. Walsh wonders whether the two female characters in Kevin Bacon's movie should be the unfaithful partners; you know, with each other.

This was filmed at my Middle School (which was shut down by Portland Public Schools in 2001). Also it's "Van Sant" not "Vant Sant"
It's torn down now.
I was at Fernhill park right next to it a few weeks ago to play in an ultimate tourney.

I feel like Van Sant treated the high school much like Kubrick treated the Overlook Hotel in The Shining, but without the advance buildup about the Indian burial ground, etc. This humongous space in which people get lost, wandering down long hallways, growing less and less in touch with each other, minds expanding into private zones of violence. In the third act, the previously normal space becomes eerie and surreal with the destruction and violence. He even seems to have brought in an equally effective Dick Halloran, here. :P
I blow very hot and very cold on Van Sant, but this is a great movie.
what makes you so special, mangina?

Is this about columbine, or a fictitious school shooting? I know there's a columbine tag, but that isn't definitive proof.
The story/shooting is fictional but heavily based on Columbine.

ZERO DAY is a better Columbine-inspired movie.
