Easier than you might think; so long as the blade is properly balanced and the handle is not overly heavy, the downwards pressure while spinning in the palm is minimal. Spin is achieved with a gentle twist of the thumb and forefinger. I have performed this trick at parties with ease. Shit, I just realized how much I sound like Dwight Shrute.
