:48 it inverts and goes from beginning? It doesn't help that I'm stoned.
I only made it 34 seconds before my brain told me that it cannot continue with illusion.
I swear I heard a higher note fade in there a few times.
:28 and :48, specifically.
Found out how it works (quoted from wikipedia):
As a conceptual example of an ascending Shepard scale, the first tone could be an almost inaudible C(4) (middle C) and a loud C(5) (an octave higher). The next would be a slightly louder C#(4) and a slightly quieter C#(5); the next would be a still louder D(4) and a still quieter D(5). The two frequencies would be equally loud at the middle of the octave (F#), and the eleventh tone would be a loud B(4) and an almost inaudible B(5) with the addition of an almost inaudible B(3). The twelfth tone would then be the same as the first, and the cycle could continue indefinitely.
The bottom notes start out really quiet, and get louder as they go upwards, while the top notes start out loudest, and progressively lose volume as they descend. The process repeats, resulting in the constantly falling feel.
Yeah they faded it in too hard. When done well the transition can be almost imperceptible.
Goes well with a planetarium, lasers, and LSD.
Five stars because it reminds of the intro to "Tales from the Darkside"...
I guess this doesn't work on tone deaf people.
"what are you watching?"
me: (points at the screen)
"what is it?"
me: "a tone."
It's the place between Hell and the Land of Myths.
It can also be an ascending shepard tone, as well.
