I like Shep but I think Fox really wants him to share views that oppose the rhetoric of Fox News. Maybe to gain liberal viewers or use him when they get called out on being unfair and unbalanced. Fox has full control over what they put on the air and Shep is notorious for undermining Fox ideals. I think they would have pulled the plug on him if they didn't need a token sane person.
