I am so gonna fucking try that.

but first; will the battery overload if i leave it on?
Couldn't there be, theoretically, a perpetual motion device just using magnets? Do magnets lose their charge after awhile?

Whoever developed it would get assassinated by oil tycoon-hired hitmen, anyway
fuckin magnets...nevermind

I knew it

Truly, magnets are one of the biggest mysteries on our planet Earth. Where did they come from? How do they work?

Fuck perpetual motion, I'd settle for a surplus output. Why do we need it to run forever? I'm not going to be alive forever, are you?

5 stars because it's a cute little motor.

eh, I'll be the dork who takes you seriously. After all, I thought like you when I was eight.

No, magnets can't make a perpetual motion machine. It takes at least as much energy to pull magnets apart as they release by pulling together. The same goes in reverse for repulsion. There's no clever arrangement of magnets that can get around that.

But what if I want it REALLY, REALLY bad??? Did you ever think about that????

"I thought like you when I was eight."

Go fuck yourself. Straight from my heart, a piercing arrow through the web into your fucking face, you asshole

Right back at you asshole. Next time do some critical thinking before you ask a dumb question. If perpetual motion were possible, with magnets or what the fuck ever, then scientists would've fucking done something with it by now.

Bootymarch is NINE AND A HALF, asshole.

He asked a sincere question in order to expand his knowledge. Anyone who responds to that by being derisive and condescending is a complete asshole. He's not the sick bison for you to jump on to make yourself feel smart, he's a human being asking a question. You should both feel ashamed of yourselves for acting the way you have.

Also, "if it was a good idea then scientists would have done it by now!" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

5 stars for the little motor.

YEAH! Why were scientists wasting their time with things like the Large Hardon Collider when they could've been investigating perpetual motion with magnets? Give Bootymarch a fucking nobel prize right here and now.

Do you even know what you're talking about anymore?

Robin Kestrel
^ for Raggamuffin.

Defensive much, Bootymarch? I actually answered your question, unlike anyone else. Did you actually want to know, or did you want to feel smart?

fuckin social interaction...nevermind

"If perpetual motion were possible, with magnets or what the fuck ever, then scientists would've fucking done something with it by now."

That statement does not demonstrate critical thinking in the slightest.

PoeTV: Where good friends come to discuss SCIENCE!

This thread is an example of the uncomfortable possibility that the hatred of knowledge is usually inspired by those who have it.

Eh, actually I didn't think much of the eight year old thing because it's literally true -- I'm so nerdy that at that age I was drawing crappy pictures of levitating cars with a magnet on the back at just the right place to push it forward...

The actually dickery was trying to crush someone else's idea just as mine was crushed in science class.

(also I thought there was at least a 50% chance I was feeding a troll)

I'm glad you guys got permanent magnetism figured out. I got stuck trying to understand in physical terms what the exchange force is and why it acts between unpaired electrons in ferromagnetic materials. Can anyone straighten me out on this?

Syd Midnight
I think of it as more of an entrance exam. If you don't like finding out how stupid and ignorant you are, you're going to wind up choosing pseudoscience anyways. The hidden truths that THEY don't want you to know etc.

Guys did you ever stop to think that maybe he had a traumatic experience with magnets? Everyone needs to just calm down.

Can we submit PoeTV comment threads to PoeTV? I will five star this whole thing.

Discussion of perpetual motion machines on QI (Series G episode 9):

Can I guess that this whole mess has to do with how the question was phrased? Bootymarch clearly knows what "perpetual motion" is (having used the term at all), so I'm guessing what he/she was really looking for was, "where is the energy 'cost' in this that keeps it from being perpetual motion?" Well, the thing is powered by a battery, so the battery will run out of power eventually. If you try to turn the motor into a current generator, it still can't generate more current than the current that powers it. (You run into another problem too: magnetically-induced currents flow in a direction that generates a counter magnetic field, so rather than getting magnetic fields reinforcing one another, they tend to oppose one another.)

As to the notion of "if it were possible scientists would be doing it already", while that doesn't hold up in the absolute, it does hold up pretty well in the case of perpetual motion. If scientists had worked out any way to beat the laws of thermodynamics, even if it were extremely difficult and costly, science would be on that shit. But at present the laws of thermodynamics still seem to be intact and there are no known ways to beat them, or even much hope of beating them.

Fuck magnets man. Tell 'em to fuck off.

This video really pisses me off!
Yes, fuck magnets, thinking theyre better than me.

Cute motor, 5 stars
Is the battery being punished, is it going to be sent into the Phantom Zone?
