rural University of Leicester has one. I know someone who had to ride it (for the first time) on the way to her PhD defense. Truly unnecessary added pressure.

Corpus Delectable Was it in the Attenborough building? Because that one's a great paternoster!
|
Binro the Heretic WHO, IN GOD'S NAME, THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?
Many, many grown adult people were involved in the creation, design and construction of this thing and none of them ever said, "Wait, maybe this isn't such a good idea."

SolRo It was probably designed in the early 20th century, when having a car with a steering colomn that would impale you in any low speed crash was thought to be fine.
lead paint
radium water
etc

Pillager It culls the slow & clumsy.
|
The Mothership Don't know how appropriate the music is; if I was anywhere near this thing, I would probably do the opposite of the song title.
|
CuteLucca ...what happens at the top? Like, if the building is 12 stories tall, and you accidentally miss that stop, will you get flipped upside-down as the thing reverses direction? ...because I can see a lot of little old ladies breaking their hips, if that's the case.

Agent #1 It hangs down as it moves, like a ferris wheel.

memedumpster Inspired by the Quake 3 engine and its homicidal elevators.
|
Caminante Nocturno I'm taking the stairs.
|
duck&cover Do they call it a paternoster because you say a prayer before you use it?

|
Jet Bin Fever This is a liability waiting to happen.

erratic Never knew this existed til now. I actually thought of something similar but dismissed it as a bad idea for the obvious reasons. Seems like it has a kill switch near the top of each floor just in case your head is sticking in the shear zone. I could still see lots of ways for it to fail.

cognitivedissonance Nobody know what happens when you reach... THE 13TH FLOOR. *thunder clap*

kingarthur As a kid, I thought these things were only found in Italy.
|
Siebenstein These are fun and exciting to ride.

Redford I am a slightly clumsy person by nature due to a slight handicap I've had since birth. Because of this I have to pay attention when I'm going down stairs (or fall on my butt) and avoid escalators if I can. Pretty sure if I used this thing on a daily basis it would only be so long until something magical happened.
|
hammsangwich Never rode in a paternoster, but I think a man-lift in a grain elevator is the next scariest means of conveyance.
|
That guy Is it crushing? I guess "crushing".

baleen Almost all the comments on this video are funny. 5 stars for poetv.
