beautiful!
Dread Pirate Roberts - 2012-01-20
Wow, it's even worse in HD! All the subtleties (or lack thereof in some cases) just shine out in this version.
MacGyver Style Bomb - 2012-01-20
Doesn't it? You can really appreciate how bad the acting is. And they haven't even begun the proper remastering yet!

Nikon - 2016-01-06
I would gladly pay for a clean copy* of the score to this movie on CD or in FLAC.

* - no dialogue

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-20
Every frame of this movie looks like someone's last-known photo? Not anymore!
Ursa_minor - 2012-01-20
Somethingawful, what hast thou donst?
deadpan - 2012-01-20
I fully support giving famously terrible movies the Criterion treatment. Where's my six disc director's cut of Laser Mission?

Brandon Lee died too late.

joelkazoo - 2012-01-20
Now Torgo looks even more like Bruce McCullough!
Jane Error - 2012-01-20
Yay! Now I can see Torgo's slimy, pubey chest hair!
StanleyPain - 2012-01-20
Holy shit, this is amazing in HD. It totally adds this weird new dimension to the movie.
The movie isn't "unwatchable" without the MST3k stuff, it's actually a hilariously wonderful, surreal experience. But this puts it over the top. I would gladly pay for a nice, cleaned up DVD or something of the movie in this quality.

For you, and everyone else who was unaware of it:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1325482813/manos-the-resto ration

(Since it's already fully-funded, you can always wait for a buyable copy instead of paying now to get a BD in the future.)

I love how much more low-budget it looks now that we can see everything.

Riskbreaker - 2012-01-20
The movie now looks somewhat disturbing.
Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-20
It always looked disturbing. It's a more vibrant kind of disturbing now.

Syd Midnight - 2012-01-23
Before it had that fog of unreality that low quality video has. Now, there is no way for you or your subconscious to avoid the knowledge that these are real people. Kinda like where the Zapruder film restorations are headed, it becomes "real" enough to start setting off all kinds of mental alarm bells.

I don't remember the wife being this hot.
MrBuddy - 2012-01-21
She was hardly visible before.

Spit Spingola - 2012-01-21
It's like a bunch of test footage edited into a movie. This is probably prettier than it's ever looked including when it was originally shown back in '66. It's amazing.

Restorations of bad movies are a billion times better than remakes of good ones.
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-01-21
I wish Torgo hadn't killed himself right after this was made so that a) he could make a million other movies and b) he could live to see himself in all of his disturbing glory, radiant and proud, oozing swank and melancholia, his untrimmed beard aglow in all of its sure to be rotten smelling imperfection.

Meerkat - 2012-01-21
Thanks for the heads-up buddy!

The new Tim & Eric movie is looking pretty good.
dead_cat - 2012-01-23
Dammit, torgo, when are you going to see the neurologist about that?
Hooker - 2012-01-24
We are getting a restoration of Manos before we are getting a restoration of Star Wars. The mind truly boggles.
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-06
This three minute clip has about 20 seconds worth of dialogue.

Article on John Reynolds, the actor who played Torgo and killed himself while Manos was in postproduction
