themilkshark This is horrible. I'm ashamed to have ever thought John K. was talented.
jangbones he's unconstrained by convention
but not talented, no
themilkshark I enjoy his early Ren and Stimpy, when he was actually attempting to make something that could air on TV. I think the runaway success of the show spoiled him because I haven't enjoyed much of his work since. It's just too unappealing for humor's sake and I'm not laughing.
cognitivedissonance Right, but Jhonen's public persona is exactly that. He's not actually fucked up.
StanleyPain Jhonen Vasquez is a bit of a tard in the same way John K. is, though. They both like to pretend that they alone, without help from anyone else ever, are the sole reason their shows have any sort of acclaim or popularity and that they alone deserve every ounce of credit for those shows.
Nikon Oh. Oh no. No. No.
WHO WANTS DESSERT Ugh
Gmork billy west was the best thing to ever happen to john K and he fucked that up boy howdy
Caminante Nocturno I might have found this funny ten years ago, when Portal of Evil was still around. Now, it just makes me sad that Portal of Evil isn't around anymore.
Spaceman Africa That was disgusting to watch
MrBuddy The worst part is John K. used to use so much imagination with his work. This time he just used the most realistic portrayal he was able to create.
Fur is Murder There is so, so, so much wrong with furries and this toothless thing is the best he could come up with?
SteamPoweredKleenex To be fair, to really understand the horror that is Furry, those who are unfamiliar with the subject often require some kind of glossary, a lot of "no, really" and possibly even some kind of PowerPoint Presentation.
I think it was POE where I first saw the acronym "SPH." While I did Google the term, I think that the site has to shoulder at least part of the blame.
joelkazoo John K has always been an overrated ego-maniacal piece of shit who thinks all modern-day animation sucks except his own.
cognitivedissonance If I know John K, this was just released yesterday, even though the sign says "Fur Con 2011", and it was intended to be done a year ago.
Riskbreaker A collision of bad things happening right infront of you.
Snakeweapon I might be going out on a limb here, but animation's supposed to, like, move around and stuff right?
cognitivedissonance Look, he had to spend the rest of the money on buying trinkets for the 15 year old girls he "invites" to "see the studio". Seriously.
Snakeweapon I wasn't initially going to throw this out there, but my buddy's older brother used to work at Spumco back in the day, and ya, everything bad you've heard about John K. isn't quite bad enough.
Portaxx Snakeweapon, I want stories. Nay, I DEMAND stories. The more terrifying, the better.
Harveyjames I'm friends with someone who worked at the studio- hung out with John every day for more than a year!- and the rumours about him banging teenage girls aren't true. It is true, however, that he's gay and feels like he can't tell anyone, and is very lonely.
Harveyjames He's got a monstrous overbearing right-wing father, you see. It's a trope you see repeat itself over and over in his work. Poor John.
Portaxx Harvey - I knew about the overbearing right-wing father, though I wish I could find the old interviews where he talks about him. I remember he claimed he made the Ripping Friends in an attempt to "bring back manliness" after seeing his dad's disgust upon being hugged by another man.
Which you know, may or may not be true, since his stories change all the time.
cognitivedissonance Self-hating closeted gay... that was the key to the riddle I was apparently missing.
Harveyjames That's how I felt, too
I have more stories, but, y'know, buy me a drink or something
Meerkat Who was that Shawn guy that did the furfans.com stuff? Some of that was kind of like a version of something this is trying to be derivative of.
SteamPoweredKleenex Yeah, Shawn Keller. I thought the same thing. He used to run Furryfans.com, but it's not there anymore. I think some of his cartoons are on YouTube.
Binro the Heretic Are you sure one of them is a girl?
And, yeah, this is pretty much typical Kricfalusi. Wildly exaggerated facial expressions accompanied by weird sounds and lots of bodily fluids.
StanleyPain Eh.....furries are sort of low hanging fruit these days. If you're going to go all "HEY LOOK I USED TO BE EDGY IN THE 90s" why not attack gamer grrls or coplayers or something....
Merzbau Does John K have any idea how comedic timing works anymore? Did he ever? Am I going to regret it if I go back and watch early Ren & Stimpy?
StanleyPain I still think the first 2 seasons of R&S hold up amazingly well. I also like the Bob Camp years, personally, but that's just me I guess.
Spit Spingola I think maybe Bob Camp + John K. = good timing. Apart, pretty hit and miss. Some of those post-John K. R&S shows have no glue holding the jokes together and then there's John K. stuff where you can't find the jokes because there's too much damn glue.
Spit Spingola This is a mess. Five stars.
Wonko the Sane I have strong opinions about cartoons
GravidWithHate JohnK: "I don't hate furries Squirrely. I'm glad of 'em. The point I was making was that the [fantastic mister] Fox movie looks amateurish. I'm amazed I have to say it. I thought the pictures would be obvious to everybody.
Furry art is fan art. I drew fan art when I was a kid (not in furry style) and when I look at it now, I laugh at how good I thought I was when it's obvious a kid drew it. I would never expect a professional movie to use design that a fan would come up with - mine or anyone else's."
http://johnkstuff.blogspot.ca/2009/11/acceptable-animation-des ign.html
cognitivedissonance Yeah, he HATED Fantastic Mr. Fox, which is dumb because it is so far from "wacky animation" as to be on another planet. He obviously doesn't get that "amateurish" is Anderson's gimmick, and (if it helps) the amateurishness of Anderson actually blew Tim Burton out of the water.
So what I'm trying to say is of the three, Wes Anderson is less obnoxious than Tim Burton AND John Kricfalusi, but I can't decide which of the Burton/Kricfalusi duad is worse.
joelkazoo John K. At least Burton gave us "Ed Wood".
Gmork PULL DE STRINK! PULL DE STRINK!
GuyCorngood I didn't know john k did flash shorts for something awful
