baleen - 2012-09-25 It sounds stupid but it's kind of a Confederacy of Dunces in a Douglas Adamsy universe meant to be read by people seeking humor in public transit over the period of 4-5 days.
It takes place in a slightly distant future where the worst of the devastation has passed and there is so much wealth on Earth that interior designers are amongst the most powerful people in the world. A Wizard of Oz story unfolds where the protagonist (an interior decorator who specializes in furnishings from 1990's movies) teams with an ingenue from a Libertarian island paradise and a cowboy with a faulty sex implant to find the oldest man in the solar system, who lives on a distant moon. There is heavy use of lobster science.

Of course, it's a Long Island Sound beach, so the water's filled with needles, plastic bottles, three eyed fish, and fecal runoff from at least eight major cities, but what are you going to do? Can't complain.
