In "Atlas Shrugged", Rand did a similar thing with metal. A guy named Hank Rearden somehow formulates an alloy that is stronger than steel, lighter than aluminum and never ever corrodes, fatigues or otherwise breaks down. He talks of items made of this metal lasting forever and being passed down from generation to generation.

Ayn Rand knew nothing of physics or the economy.

Add in the machine that generates free energy from the air and the city-sized cloaking device, and you can see why the book was shelved in Science Fiction for most of it's publishing history.

Prometheus has suffered bad press ever since the passing of ancient Greece. If you think Ayn's crap is bad, consider what the Catholic Church did to the guy.

But just for the record, "motor drawing energy from the air" was invented by Oleg Jefimenko in in early 70's. See for example, "Operation of electric motors from atmospheric electric field," Am. J. Phys. 39, 776-779, 1971

Imagine Obi-Wan saying to Darth Vader "AND YOU'RE A POMPOUS, UNGRATEFUL OLD ASS!"
