How can any politician make that claim?
MongoMcMichael - 2012-11-01
I'm looking forward to seeing more of these kinds of reactions to Bachmann in the future.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-01
Well politics by its very nature attracts certain types of mentally ill people who also tend to excel at it, so politicians can say that because a good number of them are literally clinically batshit nuts.

Vaidency - 2012-11-01
Politics has become one of those fields where you demonstrate your expertise by painting yourself as a total outsider who doesn't actually get involved with the process.

Five star for just how forceful the laughter was. That's just the kind of treatment Bachmann deserves.

"Hi, don't put any value into a word I say, ever."
Old_Zircon - 2012-11-01
At least if she said that it would demonstrate a degree of sound judgement she otherwise seems to lack.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2012-11-01
That laughter was reassuring. Have Minnesotans stopped sniffing glue recently?
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-11-01
Bachmann has been re-elected mostly because her district (as gerrimandered as they come) is pretty much exclusively white, affluent, and Christian (perhaps evangelical/crazy).

I think even these people are tired of being laughed at.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-11-02
Just stars for all of this.

Hooker - 2012-11-01
The complete non-reaction to the laughter is the best part. It's such an unsympathetic and cynical thing to do. Any relateable or in any way trustworthy person would acknowledge, in some way, being laughed at by a group of people, let alone people you want to represent in politics.
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-11-01
I almost agree. That is, I'm not entirely sure about what's going through Michelle Bachmann's version of a mind right here, but the her of a reaction was the part that I watched over and over.

The reaction from the crowd seems different than I would have expected. I would have expected a groan, followed by a few snickers, but I think we're seeing part of a long term dynamic here. I'm guessing that, by now, every appearance from Bachmann attracts a following that comes to laugh at her, like she was Foster Brooks or Homer Simpson. I think there's a good chance that Michelle Bachmann is used to being treated like a joke, because, she sort of IS a joke.

I read something where some of Bachmann's followers were being interviewed, and it sort of reminded me of my experiences as a Boxxy fan. I mean, I could come up with a lot of reasons why it's different, but here's a nice, attractive lady who takes in a lot of foster kids, and all those mean liberals treat her like she's a joke, just because she says laughably stupid things. I think this is why she keeps getting reelected, just to piss smug bastards like us off. If not for spite, they'd probably prefer someone with a little more intellectual gravitas, but spite drives our politics like never before.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-11-01
"but the her of a reaction"

that may have not been the best way to say that.

CJH - 2012-11-01
you know johnny for a guy your age you oughta have a ton of experiences and memories to both draw upon and relate new information to, so why does it always come back to boxxy? unless not realizing how you come across to people is some schtick you're working, you might need real help.

Wander - 2012-11-02
He has literally contacted Boxxy's mom and had conversations with her about her daughter. It's a bit beyond creepy.

Hooker - 2012-11-02
It's waaaaaaaaaaay beyond creepy.

James Woods - 2012-11-02
Dude, what? Don't do that.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-11-02
I knew I could get Hooker to comment on that.

>>unless not realizing how you come across to people is some schtick you're working, you might need real help.

How about not giving a shit how I'm coming accross to people?

I totally get how it comes off. So what? What kind of conversations do you imagine that I'm having with Catie's mom? I understand where the prejudice comes from, but how much am I supposed to govern my real life to prevent you from imagining things about me?

"Creepy" is not a thing. When you say that I'm creepy, you're not accusing me of any actual wrongdoing. You're saying that I make you uncomfortable. Gee, that must be hard for you. If there's any way I can help you with that, please let me know.

Like I've said before, Boxxy is pure web politics, and so I think it relates to real world politics, especially at a time when the web is changing real world politics. I've never had a fully-formed sexual thought about the girl, but I'm frankly obsessed with her as icon of the new culture. Shes a celebrity that formed outside of corporate media, and she's famous for a reason, more than one reason actually. Even though the 4chan war ended years ago, her videos are getting more views all the time. That's because the future Andy Warhol spoke of (where everyone is famous for 15 minutes) has come and gone. In THIS future, everybody's famous forever, because the internet never forgets.

Andy Warhol would totally understand my obsession with Boxxy.

>>unless not realizing how you come across to people is some schtick you're working, you might need real help.

Do you get what you're saying here? You're saying that the measure of my mental health is what other people think of me. I think maybe YOU need some real help.

Incidentally, I have a therapist, a good reputable one. I knew enough to tell him all about this. He has described my interest in Catie Wayne as "reality-based".

Literally? I followed her on Twitter.

I hope you get as much enjoyment from judging me as I get from watching you carry on like a bunch of mean old ladies, but I doubt it.

I hope they're laughing because she said something stupid, and not because they think she's joking.
joelkazoo - 2012-11-01
That type of laughter was genuine "oh, fuck you, cunt!" laughter. As a Minnesotan, I can tell.

Explodotron - 2012-11-02
Part of "Minnesota Nice" is being as passive-aggressive as possible. The condescending laugh is but one weapon in our arsenal.

hughmanatee - 2012-11-01
I hope that hurt real bad somewhere deep, deep inside that twisted mind of hears.
