Sadtiful. Or bad.

I'd forgotten about "Solid Gold". It was the worst fucking thing ever.

This song gave me a sharp pain between my eyes whenever I heard it and they played it A LOT when I was twelve. It was all over the radio and TV. God help me, I'm pretty sure there might have been a "Valley Girl" movie, but I'm afraid to look it up.
My dad is a big fan of Frank Zappa and I grew up listening to his stuff. I know this song was intended as a knock against the shallow, vapid "valley girl" mode of speech and way of life, but it had the unintended opposite effect and popularized them instead.
I seem to recall hearing Zappa say in an interview that he'd grown to hate the song.
There was a Valley Girl movie. It starred Nicolas Cage.
It was a joke song like so many of Zappa's and he never expected it to take off the way it did. He hated it because it was intended to make fun of the "valley" thing and I think people sort of thought it was supposed to be some charming tribute to it.
John Holmes Motherfucker
There was also a porno "California Valley Girls", starring John Holmes and Kimberly Carson. Since the Valley is where most porn comes from, that seems inevitable. Only memorable line: "Fuck me in the ass! Fer sure, fer sure!"
"Valley Girl" was a huge hit for Zappa, so it also seems inevitable that Zappa should hate it. It probably bugged him in particular that his daughter had a bigger hit than he ever did, the perfect revenge for naming her "Moon Unit". In retrospect, I believe the song sounds better than ever today, like everything else Zappa ever did.
I think Bobby Brown Goes Down was a bigger hit in Europe than this was in the US but I could be wrong about that. It was a pretty big hit at any rate.
