Best thing I saw on Twitter tonight:
"Does Karl Rove know he is basically enacting a liberal fantasy of Karl Rove Reacting to Losing an Election?" - James Poniewozik
|
SolRo - 2012-11-07 I think by now the real fantasy is him putting a .45 in his mouth

Rove's long-overdue irrelevance is staring him right in the face and he can't stop blinking.
|
cognitivedissonance - 2012-11-07 Irrelevance? He bilked Adelson and the Kochs for million. He's crying all the way to the bank he can now afford to buy.

I love the knowing grin the analysts have. It completely communicates how ridiculous they find the on-air product. They're not explaining the case for the Fox News audience; they're explaining the case for fucking Megyn Kelly and Karl Rove, both of who already know this but play along with the game because they're a right-wing cheerleader and a depserate whore respectively.

everyone always says bush was a dumbass but man, turd blossom is pretty much a genius level nickname for this guy
|
Xenocide - 2012-11-07
Turd Blossom mostly sat out '08, and most likely attributed McCain's loss to the fact that he wasn't backing him.
But he put a lot of time and even more money into his precious SuperPAC, and Romney's election was supposed to be its Proof of Concept.
Rove wasn't just in denial about Romney's loss. He was watching his reputation and legacy as GOP kingmaker go up in smoke.
|
jangbones - 2012-11-07 this exactly
Rove doesn't care about Obama or Romney or issues, he cares about the fact that he spent the last five years looking billionaires in the face and assuring them that he was definitely going to win them an election
under Rove's leadership, Romney captured zero swing states and Democrats gained Senate seats
wither Bush's Brain

jangbones - 2012-11-07 The Big Tent is held up by two very different tent poles, economic libertarianism and Evangelical Christianity. I suspect baleen is correct because if the GOP fails one of those groups, they risk splitting the party in two, which would be disastrous.
Just my cynical guess...I think they stick to race. They are absolutely race-obsessed, so I bet they try trotting out minority candidates and courting black church leaders next. That way, they can tell themselves that they can attract more voters in a way that doesn't seriously require any evolution of their outdated belief system.
|
cognitivedissonance - 2012-11-07 They're decomposing into their base 19th century coalition elements: Whigs and Nativists.

Pillager - 2012-11-07
GOP, give up on the Tea baggers.
Catering solely to the dying 'Angry White Guy' bloc is a exercise in futility.
Nutcases like Richard Mourdock & Akin need to be booted from the party, not endorsed. Climate change is real, just ask Chris Christie.
Or you can just keep purging moderates. Whatever.
|
Vaidency - 2012-11-07 For the second time in a row, we just saw Tea Party candidates lose senate races that moderate Republicans probably would have won.
And yet I know I'm not going to be surprised at all when many Republicans desperately try (and ultimately succeed) to convince themselves that their problem this cycle was not being far enough to the right.

You gotta wonder what the drawing board looks like today for the Republicans. They know that plain demographics ate their lunch in this election and will continue to chew away at their base. They adopted the most vanilla candidate they could and ended up with an election night shaming. There is no vision to guide them, and everything they do has to be focus grouped so that it doesn't offend fiscal conservatives, tea party nuts, 'values voters', and every other splinter group with a dog in the fight.

Sanest Man Alive - 2012-11-07
Aw, looks like this video cut out all of Rove's insane arithmetic somersaults from his attempt to explain how the race could still be too close to call. All the breakdowns and facade-drops at FOX News when the results were declared were just the sweetest possible icing on the cake.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-11-07
I wonder how many Republicans woke up this morning rethinking their entire worldview.
